The most compelling evidence comes from the Patriarch of the Ethiopian #Orthodox Tewahedo Church himself. In responding to the attacks, Abba Mathias did not speak of a one-off incident. He appealed to authorities to “break this chain of attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
A chain. Not an episode.
For years, this publication has reported on recurring killings, displacement, church burnings, property destruction, and targeted attacks in East Arsi. Religious leaders have warned about it. Community members have warned about it. Survivors have warned about it. Yet the violence continues.
The obvious question is: why?
The answer lies in the complete absence of accountability.

The author notes that “Military power can displace a political administration. It cannot, by itself, resolve disputes over constitutional authority, electoral legitimacy, and regional autonomy.”
