Tell the lads Osmar White wrote an excellent account of the campaign; also had a side career in later life as a local children's book author. I highly recommend it and, 'The Super-Roo of Mungalongaloo'.

Just finished the new @WeHaveWaysPod 4 episode series on the Kokoda campaign of 1942. A very solid foundation provided by @almurray & @James1940 for a very complex slice of history. Wasn't expecting the degree of detail & analysis provided. If you're new to this topic start here

Reposted thread from 2021: Story of Warrant Officer II William Matpi DCM of the Papuan Infantry Battalion. Born on Manus Island, a laborer at Rabaul 1942, was taken as a slave to Papua by the Japanese Yokoyama Force. Escaped to fight. A hero of the war in New Guinea. @almurray
Thread 1/16 William Matpi: A soldier. July 1942: After the Japanese failure to occupy Port Moresby from the sea, Japanese Imperial General Headquarters ordered that Moresby be occupied from the landward side, over the Owen Stanley Range. They knew it would be a very hard task.

LiDAR Lens now covers all of England and Wales. Search any of about 24,000 scheduled monuments, slide the lens over the ground, and switch between relief. Tap What's here? for nearby records and photos. It's free, needs no login, and works on a phone. lidarlens.sarsen.org

Strewth! (Etc). This corner of the war is so utterly dramatic, with twists and turns and internecine politics the like of which makes all those ooh Monty and Patton didn't get along books look like very weak beer.
TOMORROW: We're really excited to share this one with you all - Join James Holland and Al Murray as they look into Papua New Guinea and the gruelling fight that Australian forces had for... The Kokoda Track!

There will now be a temptation in many parts of Europe, including the UK, to think that things will eventually go back to normal with the US and that Europe can stop its reluctant shift towards strategic autonomy. That would be a serious mistake.

Looking forward to this and talking to @StevenWilsonHQ hot of the heels of his triumphant orchestral shows at the @RoyalAlbertHall. Have been fortunate enough to have been able to listen to the new album a fair bit too (rather than just the once in a blindfold).
To celebrate the release of my new album, join me in a conversion discussing all things relating to the village with my friend Al Murray. Afterwards I’ll be signing copies of the album. See you there! Tickets go on sale at 5pm BST today. link.dice.fm/U2b891d0abb6

We should stick with the more familiar Donkeys and Elephants. I know that one is one and the other is the other one..
