On Aug. 24th my mom went in for a major spinal operation to correct a brutal case of scoliosis. It was years in the making as she delayed going in, in order to be close for my dad during his own battles.
The surgery went well but recovery has been very tough. It was somewhat expected… 2 rods and 20 screws is no easy task for anyone, but especially not for a woman who turns 77 next month. You’re also at risk of infection which can complicate things, and as luck would have it, she got a couple of those in a rehab facility.
It got bad and she went back into the hospital for care under the surgeon’s team. Another 2 weeks in the hospital, before being released yesterday again for rehab.
She’s of course super weak from all this, but in my opinion, she’s a warrior. 💪🏼
My brothers and I have been spending hours every day with her since the surgery a month ago. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to get back to poker, streams, MUGs, and just hanging out with my wife. This part of life is tough. But we’re all optimistic for better days ahead, especially for my mom.
