We’re a coalition of 50+ organizations challenging the power of Amazon: the corporation posing the single greatest threat to our economy and democracy today. The company is a symptom of billionaires hoarding wealth and power at everyone else’s expense.
(1/3) This is really important. Big tech is desperately trying to sideline widespread grassroots opposition to their AI agenda. These are 8 tactics to divide us:
1. false solutions like CBAs
2. softball legislation addressing a narrow issue
3. cutting deals w clean energy folks
Answer: No one except Big Tech and data center developers. Read more about how the data center industry’s “community benefit agreements” are really just an attempt to help mega-corporations escape accountability ⬇️ foodandwaterwatch.org/news/2…
(2/3)
4. convincing people AI data centers are one issue, and AI is another issue
5. using national security as an excuse (always a good one)
6. saying this is about medicine, when they are spending no real money on that
7. cutting deals w building trades who need the work
...
Stories like these are especially chilling when you remember that Amazon wants to build on-site nuclear power for its data centers.
There's no way we can possibly trust these companies to handle actual ☢️nuclear waste☢️ responsibly.
What do all of these corporations have in common?
They'll spend endless amounts of money to defend their ability to exploit workers. We hope more cities follow New York's example here!
Amazon.com, Uber and Instacart, rivals in app-based food and grocery delivery, have teamed up to sue New York City over a law that bars them from deactivating drivers from their services without advance notice. reuters.com/legal/litigation…
You can always count on Philly to bring some much-needed humor and chaos to the fight against corporate villains 🦅🦅

A note to our clean energy friends: the answer here is not cutting a deal with big tech to *eventually* transition to renewables.
Big Tech's data center build out is reckless and unnecessary. We have to reject their entire destructive AI agenda.

The tech industry and data center developers have promoted "Bring Your Own Power" as a false solution to address the energy crisis they've created.
In reality, BYOP means more dirty gas-powered data centers. New research shows that communities continue to pay the price. 👇
It is so nice to have a fight that brings the country together.

Dolores Huerta was a leader. A fighter. And we are proud to have called her a friend.
She organized farmworkers in the fields. She negotiated their contracts. She led nonviolent protests that showed what it means to be an organizer, and how to do it with your whole heart.

Yup. Amazon could pay its workers a living wage TODAY, but chooses not to. Giving the company more control over AI won't make it suddenly grow a conscience.
1. Here’s what we’re seeing in the final sprint before next week’s elections:
People want a say in AI and AI data centers–and they want their electeds to stand up to the corporate interests trying to redefine our future.
7. But few candidates fully grasp that you can’t fix the tech industry without also addressing labor, antitrust, surveillance, and data centers.
They need to recognize that all of these issues are linked instead of grasping at one-off interventions.
