Earlier this week, Prime Minister Carney announced his plans to privatize Canada’s largest airports. So, I went to YVR to ask Canadians what they think (spoiler: they don’t share his enthusiasm).

A huge congratulations to @oliviachow and the incredible slate of progressive councillors elected in Toronto tonight. This win goes beyond any one person or campaign — it’s the result of years of movements organizing together, from tenant unions to climate activists, migrant rights advocates and those on the front lines of harm reduction. You mobilized and knocked on every last door to make this happen. Tonight, you’ve secured a better future for Toronto together.

Today broke grey and raw for New Democrats here in BC: last night was a body blow. This morning I’m sending solidarity and care to all the progressive organizers - within and beyond electoral politics - who have worked tirelessly over so many years in this province. It is thanks to your unending effort that we have won and defended all our social gains: queer and disability rights, Indigenous rights, childcare and public health, working conditions and unionization, universal public services and more. None of these victories came without struggle. And that struggle must continue now, to protect them in every way we can. But not today. Today is a day to feel all the feelings, find comfort and get some rest. Tomorrow we rise to fight again.

At least $50 billion for another pipeline. $82 billion in new military spending in 5 years. $300 billion in corporate welfare and mega incentives at an investment summit. But the cupboard is bare for Parks Canada. Despite the heroic efforts of the @psac_afpc workers who'll remain, camping will be chaos next summer. If you’re not a big corporation or foreign investor, you might just be invisible to this government.
2,671 PSAC members at Parks Canada received notice this week that their positions may be cut. These cuts put our environment, natural and cultural heritage, parks, and national historic sites at risk. psacunion.ca/psac-raises-ala…

The right knows how to channel the legitimate rage of working class people. The problem is where they direct that rage. It’s not immigrants and trans kids making your life impossible. It’s the bankers and the billionaires with all the wealth and power. It’s time to put the blame where it actually belongs.

Canadians can’t afford rent. Food bank use is at a record high. Wages are stagnant while the rich are getting richer than ever before. Of all the people who could use this kind of federal support right now, venture capitalists are at the bottom of that list.

BC, advance voting ends everywhere at 8pm PT today. Don't delay! This is a pivotal election for our province. As a British Columbian, I’m deeply concerned about what a BC Conservative government would do to our province, particularly the most vulnerable folks in our communities. I’ll be doing my part to defeat the Conservatives and elect a progressive government by voting for my NDP candidate Lara Honrado on Saturday. You can find when and where to vote here: wheretovote.elections.bc.ca/

This is private equity, this is what it does. Buy up businesses, run them into the ground, and rip them apart for short-term profit. The developers at BioWare know how to run the studio. They know how to make the games we all love. They should be given the first opportunity - and the federal support - to buy it and run it themselves. And if we want to avoid the Mass Effect effect in Canada, we should be keeping private equity out, not welcoming it in. pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/…

The referendum is over. The fight is not. Hundreds of thousands of Albertans voted NO. The referendum is not binding, and we must stop governments from using it to attack migrant rights across Canada. Pledge to defend your migrant neighbours: MigrantRights.ca/Pledge

I’m hearing from friends in Alberta that today is actually hitting folks pretty hard. Not the vote to remain, which was a relief, but the other 9 questions. It’s becoming clear that the feeling of unity suggested by the referendum result is undercut by majority support for questions which feature policies that scapegoat migrants. But no amount of punching down by Danielle Smith will fix Alberta’s health care, public education or cost-of-living crises. These are the consequences of years of underfunding, not of newcomers trying to build a life in that beautiful province. Albertans deserve real solutions to the crises they face, not scapegoating that divides us and fuels prejudice. Right now, all Canadians have an opportunity to reject this and say: we stand with migrants facing the brunt of this cynical, negative politics. A united Canada must mean more than just rejecting separation. It must mean actually standing up for all of us — building a movement across our differences to make this a country where everyone can live a life of dignity, equality and belonging.

It should be illegal for Israel’s top arms producer to purchase a Canadian company. Elbit Systems is complicit in the genocide of Palestinians. Cancel the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement, enact sanctions and a two-way arms embargo now.

At a time when our country is under threat, it’s heartening to see well over a million Albertans come together to reject separation and choose Canada. This result was something that many people worked exceptionally hard for, and I am grateful for their efforts. I want to give special recognition to MP Heather McPherson for everything she did to help achieve this victory. She also raised the alarm about the disturbing foreign interference that went on in the referendum process. We need clear answers about efforts by MAGA-aligned operatives to influence the outcome of this vote. The integrity of our democratic processes should not be up for debate.

Very sad face that I have to miss @avilewis's visit to Gatineau tonight. I hope everyone is having a good time. Not fun getting sick the other day and not quite well enough (or not at risk of getting others sick) to go and be comfortable with that choice. @ndp
