For years, people have been expected to put up with Avanti’s cancellations, delays, overcrowding, and a service that has failed them time and time again.
So my Labour government is bringing Avanti West Coast into public ownership at the earliest opportunity in March next year.
That means passengers, not shareholders, will come first.
More investment, fewer delays, and a renewed focus on getting the basics right.

ALT “I and the Deputy Mayor have been receiving ongoing briefings and updates, and we are in regular contact with the leadership of Greater Manchester Police. “We thank them and Counter Terror Police for the action they’ve taken and we have been assured that the current threat has been mitigated. “I know this will send a chill down the spine amongst Jewish communities in Greater Manchester, one year on from the evil antisemitic terrorist attack that took place on Yom Kippur, and at the holiest time in the calendar. “As Mayor and Deputy Mayor, we will do everything within our power to keep people safe, to challenge hatred, and to stamp out the poison of antisemitism in our city region. “Officers will be stepping up visible patrols to provide security and reassurance and to engage with members of the public.”

In 1865, 3 years before Japan opened its doors to the world, GODAI Tomoatsu (五代友厚) travelled from Satsuma to Manchester, and was amazed by the Industrial Revolution.
He brought back spinning machines and transformed 🇯🇵industry.
Later, he founded Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Osaka Stock Exchange, and Osaka Metropolitan University.
160 years later, this bridge was renewed through the 2025 Sister Cities Agreement between Osaka and Greater. Manchester.
