Remember that big green canvas I was going to throw out last week? Decided to give it one more try: “Arsenic” pics soon.

Lovely day. Working on the official Toth font (bold) and listening to early Foo Fighters in the studio.

Hey, kids! Tape! On a big-ass canvas! Wowzers! But seriously, I decided to throw away that green one I was working on. There was just no saving it. Starting fresh…with TAPE!

Lovely day. Just delivered proofs for the first issue of an unannounced Dark Horse project. Jumping back and forth between other small projects and font designs for the rest of the day.

Over the weekend, I started painting on the biggest canvas I’ve ever attempted (24”x30”) and was really unhappy with where it was going. In frustration, I slapped a bunch of moss green paint over the whole thing. The under painting gives it an interesting texture anyway.

In mainstream comics, I consider the letterer to be the first READER of a comic. We're the first to see the script & art married with dialogue. If your letterer doesn't understand something, or loves a particular scene, that's a good barometer of what's working...or not working.

This means, I'm not shy about asking questions or delivering praise on a project. I often leave notes in a proof, both questions and praise. 99% of writers/artists I work with appreciate it. (Particularly the praise!)

People who will spend time to contact me about how much they don't like my work are hilarious. I was in design school in the 90s. Critiques then were brutal. People left the room crying. Professors tore you apart looking you directly in the eyes. You ain't got nothing on that.
