ALT Sometimes agents do reach out to authors on social media, but we strongly encourage you to research them before engaging in any conversations. Please email [email protected] if you’re ever unsure and need confirmation.
ALT Here's an example of a scam email from an account that does not end in the bookendsliterary(dot)com format. This is a fraudulent email impersonating one of our agents. It even included an attachment with a fake contract from Penguin Random House.
ALT Agents will not reach out from any free email addresses outside of our domain, which end in (at) bookendsliterary (dot) com—not gmail. If you haven’t had an offer call/Zoom with the agent, it may be a scam. We'll never send an agency contract without speaking to you first.
ALT A website called www (dot) booktaleliterary (dot) com is a fraudulent agency that is impersonating us, and using the likeness and information of one of our real agents.
ALT Beware of websites and social media profiles (primarily on X/Twitter) pretending to be our agents or clients. Our agents receive client referrals on occasion, but please be wary who are pretending to be our clients. Clients wouldn’t refer strangers.
ALT We will never ask you for money. There are no "upfront payments" for working with a reputable literary agent. There are no reading or editing fees. Agents get paid by commission after they sell your books and/or subsidiary rights.
