💐 Today we honor Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead — a tradition that celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed, while keeping their memory alive through family, food, music, and altars.
Observed on Nov. 1 and 2, families create colorful ofrendas (altars) with photos, candles, food, and marigolds to welcome the spirits of the departed back for a brief visit.
Día de los Muertos is celebrated across Mexico, parts of Central and South America, and in Latino communities worldwide, including throughout California, as a joyful affirmation of love, memory, and continuity between the living and the dead.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dolores Huerta, a pioneering labor and civil rights leader whose lifelong advocacy helped shape a more just and equitable California.
From fighting for farmworkers’ rights and protections against harmful pesticide exposure to empowering communities to advocate for their futures, Huerta demonstrated that lasting change begins with people.
Her legacy reminds us that environmental justice and community voices are essential to building a healthier, more equitable, and resilient California.
Her rallying cry, “Sí, se puede,” will continue to inspire generations.
Rest in power, Dolores Huerta. 🕊️
Read Governor Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s statement on Dolores Huerta’s passing:

🌎 How has California’s understanding of climate change evolved?
At the 2026 Resilient California Summit, Julie Kalansky of Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego reflected on the progress made between California’s Fourth and Fifth Climate Change Assessments.
Building on previous research, California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment provides updated scientific information to help communities understand evolving climate risks, inform decision-making, and strengthen climate resilience across the state.
The Assessment represents an important step in translating climate science into meaningful action for California’s communities.
