A special Saturday in Canton as the hometown Warriors hosted Avon in field hockey (game ended 0-0 tie)! #ctfh
The stadium was dedicated to the memory, in honor of the contributions, of legendary Canton Field Hockey Coach Nancy Grace, an 8-time state champion. Back in the day, visiting teams were greeted with "Welcome to Graceland" spray painted on the side of the hill that overlooked the grass field.
The upper field as the Canton Middle/High School was named in honor of Catherine DeSimas, who for over a quarter century served on the Canton Board of Education.
After the game, the Canton and Avon players shared cookies and desserts on the field!

And Electric Park? From Wikipedia:
"Electric Park was a historical ballpark and recreation area located near the New Britain and Plainville, Connecticut town line (across from White Oak Park), which was historically used for minor league baseball and local sports during the early 20th century. Today, the site is where the interstate 84 now divides the corridor."

Today, CIAC hosted the Mindset of a Champion event at Eastern Connecticut State University, bringing together student-athletes for a morning focused on leadership, confidence, and mental performance.
Former MLB catcher, World Series Champion, and Olympian Ryan Lavarnway shared his journey and encouraged students to dream big, emphasizing that hard work, goal-setting, and believing in yourself are key to achieving what may seem impossible.
“Have an impossible goal. Even if you don’t know how you’re going to get there, believe it is possible. If you believe that it is reachable, nobody can stop you…It is not about proving others wrong. It is about proving yourself right.”
Students also heard from the Bet on You program, led by sisters Erin Connor, Mental Performance Mastery Coach, and Katie Wood, Author & Motivational Speaker.
Their session focused on developing mental strength, confidence, and resilience, while exploring how the brain impacts performance in both sports and life. They encouraged students to invest in themselves and embrace adversity as an opportunity for growth, and to practice gratitude every day as a foundation for a positive mindset.
Each student received a Bet on You journal, designed to build daily habits of gratitude, reflection, and resilience while helping athletes unlock peak performance and lasting confidence in competition and beyond.

It’s #BeyondTheBellWeek! ❤️
Behind every performance, competition, rehearsal, exhibition, and creative moment is someone helping students discover what they love and believe in what they can become.
This week, we’re celebrating the directors, coaches, teachers, sponsors, and mentors who make high school activities possible - and who give students a place to belong, grow, create, and shine beyond the classroom. 👏
