A massive public meeting was held in Thiruvananthapuram on 28 October as part of the extended meeting of the CPI(M) Thiruvananthapuram District Committee. Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the meeting.

CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby, along with other senior party leaders and student and youth leaders, visited Ramlila Maidan today to inspect the arrangements for the INDIA Bloc rally on 1 November, demanding the ouster of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Lok Sabha MP K Radhakrishnan wrote to Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi on 29 October, demanding urgent intervention against the reduction of reserved seats for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) PhD admissions for 2026–27. Against the mandated reservation, JNU has allocated only 38 of the required 53 seats for ST candidates, 103 of 107 for SC candidates, and just 17 of the required 36 seats for PwBD candidates. Comrade Radhakrishnan asserted that such discriminatory practices systematically deprive students from marginalised backgrounds of higher academic opportunities and constitute a clear violation of social justice and equity. He strongly urged the Union Education Minister to direct the JNU administration to withdraw the flawed prospectus, rectify the seat matrix and fully restore the constitutional reservation quotas without delay.

We stand in solidarity with the people of Ganjam and demand immediate, large-scale government intervention to ensure the rescue of all those stranded, protect lives and provide urgent relief amid the devastating floods. Ganjam district of Odisha is battling an unprecedented flood disaster. The scale of devastation is alarming and demands immediate emergency intervention. More than 300 villages across 22 blocks have been affected by floods and extremely heavy rainfall, impacting lakhs of people. More than 100 villages have been cut off by floodwaters. Dharakote, Sorada, Aska, Patrapur, Hinjilicut, Sanakhemundi, Chikiti, Digapahandi, Purushottampur and several other areas are witnessing widespread flooding. Even low-lying areas of Berhampur city are submerged, leaving people stranded amid severe waterlogging. This is not merely a natural calamity; it is a massive humanitarian crisis. Thousands of families are facing displacement, destruction of livelihoods, damage to crops and property, and an acute threat to their lives and safety. The immediate priority must be the protection of human lives, urgent rescue and evacuation, adequate food, safe drinking water, healthcare, shelter and uninterrupted relief operations. The government must rise to the occasion, ensure accountability and mobilise all available resources without delay. Ganjam cannot be left to suffer in isolation. The people need immediate action, not assurances!
