A welcome to the big league moment for our guy Gabey. One of the best humans I know. Have an opinion that favors Topps? Bad guy. Hit a good card? Loaded boxes. Pay too little? Scam artist. Miss on a player? Idiot. This is the downside of big time content - everything you do is under a microscope, especially from the loud minority.
Guy doesn’t rip cases. He truly collects and he prospects better than most. Knows the college football landscape better than every human being I know.
As someone who does rip, Bowman U being combined sucks. It’s terrible. Who does it benefit? Topps. Who does it hurt? True collectors. The folks who want the NDSU football players likely don’t care about pulling a Mendoza, Love or Tate auto. And now that rip costs 3x more $ to do so. As a college diehard myself, i would much rather have BCU be its on thing. Greatest college football product ever made.
I understand why Topps does it though. They want the Bowman brand to be the beginning of the journey for athletes & wants the brand to be the same across sport.
It will still be a big release. Big names - in college and pro - to be chased. There will be extra attention to the college card space because big breakers will be ripping cases and hitting big college cards. Some will see that as a win for a space that’s been on the up for years - some will say it’s bad because “flippers” are getting in (or because they’re just always angry).
Regardless - more attention is coming to the college card world now! It will be different, it regardless it will still be loved and collected by many & in the end, that’s what matters most.
