Spectacular Star Wars #2 in a CGC 8.5.
X-Men #12 in a CGC 8.
And finally, the Punisher Limited Series number 1 in a CGC 9.8.
An overlooked X-Men first appearance once sold for nearly $14,000.
The catch? The big-money collectible isn’t just any copy. It has something most readers would ignore: a jewelry ad.
Here’s why that matters. 🧵
X-Men #107 (1977), is the first appearance of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, including Gladiator.
But the copy in the spotlight has 2 crucial features: a CGC 9.8 and a rare Mark Jewelers advertising insert.
Mark Jewelers inserts were 4-page ads included in the early 1970s, associated with copies sold near US military bases.
The appeal is scarcity, especially in top condition.
The article says there are no higher-graded copies of this variant on the CGC census.
That doesn’t mean every copy is unique—or valuable at the same level. The insert AND condition are the key details.
