The Corvette Challenge Series brought a new level of competition to America’s Sports Car. From 1988 to 1989, the SCCA-sanctioned series put drivers in identically prepared Corvettes, where performance behind the wheel made the difference. General Motors produced just 60 Corvettes for the 1989 season, including Car No. 1, driven by defending series champion Stu Hayner. During a race in Dallas, Hayner survived a dramatic tumbling crash in the closing laps, an incident that made a lasting impact on the series. Today, Car No. 1 stands as a piece of Corvette’s motorsports heritage, representing a unique era of competition that put Corvette drivers to the test. NOW ON DISPLAY‼️This is the Corvette Grand Sport that led NASCAR’s starting field at the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 31, 2011. U.S. women’s national soccer team goalkeeper Hope Solo drove this car during the pre-race pace laps, just weeks after helping her team reach the Women’s World Cup final. Finished in Supersonic Blue with a white stripe and red fender hash marks, this car paired Grand Sport styling with Brickyard graphics and a roof-mounted light bar for its official race-day role. It marked the 18th consecutive year Chevrolet supplied the Brickyard 400 pace car. See it in-person at the Museum: corvettemuseum.org/visit/
There’s a reason they called it the Snake Skinner. In the late 1980s, Corvette engineers were exploring how a lighter ZR-1 could deliver even more performance as the Dodge Viper emerged as a new American performance competitor. The 1989 Corvette Snake Skinner II was part of that development story and represents a fascinating period of experimentation during the C4 era. See it up close in our 'Driven to Preserve' exhibit & discover more of the stories behind the Corvettes we preserve: corvettemuseum.org/driven-to…

ALT A bright red barn with "Jackson's Orchard & Nursery" written on it. The barn has two small windows with green plants underneath and a white X across the main doors. In front of the barn, there are pumpkins, colorful flowers, and hanging ferns. Several people are near the entrance under a clear blue sky.
