A new threat from ransomware group Black Basta has emerged wherein bad actors flood victims’ inboxes with non-malicious emails, like newsletters, to overwhelm them. Then, they contact the victim on Microsoft Teams, posing as IT support and convincing them to install remote access tools like AnyDesk. Stay vigilant! Below are some effective threat mitigation tactics: - Be Cautious with Email Overload: Regularly clean your inbox and avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails, even if they seem harmless. - Verify IT Communications: Always verify the identity of anyone claiming to be from your IT help desk. Use official contact methods to confirm their request, especially if they ask for remote access. - Inform and Teach Users: Provide recurring cybersecurity awareness training to all staff members. Pay particular attention to the most recent phishing tactics and the significance of closely examining emails, particularly those posing as It Help Desk/Support.
