It's worth noting that Ofcom won't actually begin enforcing the law against *platforms* until they have conducted public and industry consultation and produced final guidance, which will likely be next spring/summer. However, the police can enforce the law against individuals. Whether or not they do so without getting on the same page as Ofcom first is anyone's guess.
Today, the UK introduced draconian criminal penalties for the distribution of consensual kink and fetish content. The laws are unclear and could put thousands of creators in potential legal jeopardy. For the time being, we’ve limited distribution of significant amounts of content in the UK. (1/8)

Every man in Britain aged over 45 first encountered porn when he found it in the woods.
Years ago in the woods near where I lived, I found a stash of porn mags in a Presto bag, swiped the lot and sold them at school on the Monday,

No it didn't. CPR training videos aren't pornography, so aren't covered by the law.
The Jess Asato Law has made CPR training videos illegal

Fact: your personal facesitting and deepthroat clips are not going to get you into trouble providing everyone is a consenting adult and you don't publish them or share them with anyone not in them.

Here's why it isn't illegal to watch Games of Thrones (the law only applies to pornography).
Replying to @bb77page3g
Pornography is defined in the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 as being of "such a nature that it must be reasonably be assumed to have been produced solely or principally for the purpose of sexual arousal." No person could reasonably argue that Game of Thrones meets that definition.

We're seeing a lot of posts from people saying the new porn law only applies to England and Wales. This is FALSE. It applies to the whole of the United Kingdom.

False. Porn where individuals are pretending to be cousins is legal (as long as they're adults and not pretending to be under 18). Cousin marriage *should* be illegal though and it's a far bigger problem.
in the uk you can legally marry your cousin but if you make porn pretending to be cousins you’ll be arrested

Leaving it up to the courts isn't sufficient, Jess. When you do that, people over-censor themselves out of caution - aka prior restraint. They stop themselves from saying and publishing things that may well be perfectly legal out of fear of legal consequences. Why drag people through the courts instead of issuing guidelines that could easily cover 99% of situations?
Replying to @CobaltCherry
That is exactly what should be left to courts and experts to prove. All legislation requires interpretation alongside the facts of the case and the intention of the law. This is designed to ensure that harmful practices are discouraged.

We're seeing so much incorrect information about the new UK law on pornography that came into effect today. For example, no, you're not going to get into trouble for watching Game of Thrones. We're not lawyers, but if you want to ask us something about the law we'll give you our opinion. If we don't know we'll tell you we don't know. Beware anyone who confidently asserts something as fact without being able to back it up with sources.
