📣 Today marks a historic new chapter for Hinkley Point B as the nuclear power station is transferred from @edfenergy to the @NDAgovuk group for decommissioning.
Hinkley Point B was the most productive clean power asset in UK history when it finished, generating:
📈 £15bn worth of economic value to the UK
⚡ Enough electricity to power every home in the South West for 33 years
🏭 Low-carbon electricity which avoided 108m tonnes of CO2 emissions
To deliver the safe, secure decommissioning of the site with @NRServicesUK’ knowledge and expertise, 250 well-paid, skilled jobs will remain in the local community.

As World Alzheimer’s Month draws to a close, we’re setting our sights on what comes next.
Since our charity partnership with @alzheimerssoc and Alzheimer Scotland began in 2024, colleagues and partners across EDF have raised an incredible £646,365.
Now, we’re building on this momentum with an ambitious goal: to raise £1 million in fundraising by the end of our partnership in December 2027.
We're calling it The Race to £1 Million.
Every fundraiser, challenge, volunteering hour and donation goes toward funding vital support services, research and campaigning for people living with dementia and their families, and we’re excited to see how much more we can achieve together.

As part of World Alzheimer’s Month, we’re resharing our colleague Katy’s story about her nan’s experience of dementia.
Katy’s experience highlights the importance of recognising the signs and seeking an early diagnosis, to open the door to practical and emotional support.
Our charity partner, @alzheimerssoc, have created a useful checklist that can help you recognise potential signs and symptoms.

For 46 years, Hinkley Point B nuclear power station helped provide reliable, low-carbon electricity to thousands of UK homes.
The first Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) to generate electricity to the grid in the UK, it was the most productive nuclear power station the UK had ever had when it ceased operation in August 2022.
Following the removal of the fuel from the nuclear reactors late last year, the station is now preparing for the next chapter of its story – transferring to @NRServicesUK (NRS) from 1 October 2026.
This week, teams from NRS, the Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency, joined Hinkley Point B colleagues at the station to celebrate months of technical work across all the organisations to secure new licences and permits in preparation for this next step.
It's great to see the continued growth of the UK's civil nuclear workforce.
From the teams delivering Hinkley Point C and @sizewellc to the thousands working across the UK's existing stations, nuclear continues to provide skilled jobs and long-term careers for communities across the country.
📣 Over 100,000 people are employed across the UK civil nuclear industry for the first time in history 👷♀️
Today the Nuclear Industry Association launched our 2026 Jobs Map. This year’s figures show a 67% growth in the civil nuclear workforce over the past five years, from 61,371 jobs in 2021 to a record 102,606 in 2026. 📈
🏗️ This unprecedented employment has been driven by construction at Hinkley Point C and decisive government investment in @sizewellc, as well as the development of Europe’s first Small Modular Reactors with Project Gwyndod in North Wales.
The Government must now ensure the swift implementation of nuclear regulation reform, to unlock future projects and continue this monumental growth of the nuclear workforce.

September is World Alzheimer’s Month, a time to raise awareness of dementia and the impact it has on individuals, families and communities across the UK.
We’re proud to partner with @alzheimerssoc and Alzheimer Scotland, helping to fund vital support, services and research through the fundraising and volunteering efforts of our people.
This year’s focus is on the signs and symptoms of dementia, and Alzheimer’s Society have created a useful dementia symptoms checklist to help you recognise potential signs and prepare for a conversation with your GP.

With the holiday season well underway, we're looking back on our solar-powered ice cream adventure in Westminster. ☀️🍦
It was a great way to show how electric technologies like solar can help households, businesses and communities save money on energy.
The recent announcement that Heysham 1 and Hartlepool nuclear power stations will now generate until March 2030 isn't just a positive step for low-carbon electricity generation in the UK.
It’s also an important moment for the people whose skills, expertise and hard work have helped the stations operate reliably for decades.
We asked colleagues at Hartlepool to share their thoughts on what the extension means to them. 👇
Heysham 1 and Hartlepool nuclear power stations are set to play a role in supporting Britain’s energy security for even longer, with both now expected to continue generating until March 2030.
This latest lifetime extension supports more than 1,000 jobs in the north-east and north-west and is expected to deliver an extra 28TWh of nuclear power over the 2-year period.
We’ll continue to keep the lifetimes of our Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) stations under review, with our focus remaining on generating low-carbon electricity for as long as it is safe and commercially viable to do so.

Glasgow is coming alive with the energy of the Commonwealth Games this week, and as Official Energy and Utilities Principal Partner of Glasgow 2026, we’re proud to be supporting a more sustainable event by supplying key venues with 5.4GWh of renewable electricity.
We’ll be powering Scotstoun Stadium, the Glasgow International Arena and Tollcross International Swimming Centre through a zero-carbon energy tariff to support Glasgow 2026's ambition to deliver a lower-carbon Games.
Just as small changes can make a difference in sport, they can make a difference in energy too. Whether it’s how we power our homes, businesses or major events like Glasgow 2026, electricity has an important role to play in supporting a more sustainable future.
We wish all our home nations teams the very best of luck as the Games get underway.

We're backing Sizewell B to continue operating to 2055, powering millions of homes with clean, homegrown energy ⚛️
The 20-year lifetime extension of the power station will cut costs for consumers and support 900 skilled jobs as part of our new golden age of nuclear.
It's an exciting moment for Sizewell B nuclear power station.
We’ve signed Heads of Terms with the UK Government, setting out the key principles for an agreement that would enable Sizewell B to continue generating reliable, low-carbon electricity until at least 2055.
This 20‑year lifetime extension beyond the original shutdown date of 2035 is a vote of confidence in our people, their skills and the role nuclear plays in strengthening the UK’s energy security and powering an electric Britain.
Robert Gunn, Station Director at Sizewell B, explains what this means for the site, our people and the communities it supports.
