Whilst I've never felt vengeful or rage as a symptom of emotional neglect: I definitely learned to swallow my emotions, and not value them.
I think that's why I turned to songwriting. It was the best way I found to put words to my feelings and have them both heard and honored.
Under pressure? Try asking:
What's actually happening?
What am I assuming?
What's one constructive next step?
Sometimes the most useful thing is creating a little space before reacting.
When Was the Last Time You Did Something Just Because It Was FUN? emmagmusic.substack.com/p/whā¦
At 23, I was a rock singer, youth worker, music teacher, weightlifter AND auto-mechanics student.
Apparently I was supposed to pick one lane.
I wrote a song about that feeling. āPuppetā comes out November 8. š¶
When was the last time you had a genuine conversation with someone you disagreed withāand walked away understanding them better?
We need more curiosity and fewer assumptions.
Have you ever felt like people only know one version of you?
The professional one. The responsible one. The one who has everything together.
Meanwhile, there's a whole other person they haven't met.
Musicians: what's the most ridiculous thing that's ever happened to you on stage?
I feel like this could get interesting. š
One of the strangest things about being a songwriter is realizing that a song you wrote about something deeply personal can mean something completely different to someone else.
And somehow, both interpretations can be right.
Songwriters, Iāve got a question.
Do you usually start with the lyrics, the melody, a chord progression, or some random thought that wonāt leave you alone?
Unpopular opinion (maybe?): You don't have to be a professional singer to deserve to sing.
Sometimes singing just feels freaking good.
Some songs are written because you have something to say.
Others are written because you're trying to figure out what the hell you're feeling.
Sometimes it's both.
There's something magical about hearing a song you've written come to life with other musicians.
And there's something equally hilarious about realizing the version in your head was VERY different from what came out. š
Genuine question: when you discover a new artist, what makes you actually stop scrolling and listen?
The lyrics? The voice? The melody? Or just a feeling you can't explain?
Well, hello again, Twitter/X/whatever we're calling this place now. š
I've been busy writing, recording, performing, and helping other people find their voices through music.
Figured it was time to bring you along for the ride again.
What's everyone listening to lately?

It was revealed that Dolly Parton was secretly battling cancer but she didn't say anything and instead released this song as one of her last to raise funds for children with cancer. Even while she was sick she was still thinking about others. Iām absolutely devastated.

Intimate relationships are mirrors. They challenge us. They force us to expand and see the parts of ourselves we want to hide from other people.
They expose us.
And that doesn't always feel good.

In March, government-selected leaders from Cambodia and Laos walked into a room at @AUTuni
I asked them one question: what would you tell your younger self about leadership?
Together: we wrote a song.
That song is now my next single: "Trust the Process"
