That escalated quickly. Wettest day in the city since May 2025 now. Parts of the South Coast and Cape are over 4" and counting. Go a month without rain, get a month's worth in a day. #wbz
Today is good enough for the wettest November 6th on record in Boston. On top of that, it's the wettest calendar day the city has had all year. Still coming down. #wbz
Big totals on the board in SE Mass and more coming through the night. A month's worth and then some in one day. #wbz
It's a week out, but first time I've put "chance of mix" on the 7-day this season. Pendulum swinging back the other direction later next week. #wbz
Came up a bit shy of an unprecedented 5th day in a row of 70F+. We'll have to settle for a tie. Humidity stays up through the evening before slowly falling back tomorrow. #wbz
Storms on storms in the coming months, especially across the southern tier to parts of the east coast
A ton of H2O en route
New ECMWF data shows the *strongest subtropical jet stream* in its forecast history blowing across the Pacific and U.S. this winter into next spring, with record-strength winds predicted from California to Florida.
There's even a connection to Europe.
El Niño fuels more thunderstorms near the equator, which release heat high into the atmosphere.
That extra warmth strengthens the Hadley circulation and steepens the temperature gradient between the tropics and the mid-latitudes, which strengthens the subtropical jet.
And that's why such a stormy winter is anticipated across the western, southern and eastern United States.
Big time light show by November standards along Long Island Sound and over to Cape Cod ⚡️
Torrential downpours
Downright tropical out there for November. Showers and downpours, plus a chance of thunder, will get going soon. Latest track at 11 #wbz
Bumping the 2-4"+ rain zone a little farther NW for tomorrow. Localized 4"+ in SE Mass still on the table with localized flooded out roads possible. Lots of leaves coming down tomorrow, too. #wbz
A record warmest low temp for the date set today in Boston. Currently looks like we'll come up a couple degrees short tomorrow but may be close. #wbz
Replying to @ericfisher
It’s the Japanese maple for me.
Mount Auburn cemetery.
Will it or won't it?
Polar vortex is record weak for the time of year, but will we see a true SSW (wind reversal)?
Models kicking the can down the road a bit...now showing best chance mid-month
As of yet not showing a lot of "down where we live impact" with minimal coupling to the surface. Transient cold shot would be my best guess for now
On track to end our dry streak with a bang tomorrow
Still highlighting south of Boston for 2"+ of rain and localized 4"+ with some tropical rain rates
Go a month without rain, then get a month's worth in a day
There have only been three times on record when Boston hit 70F+ (4) days in a row during November
And they've all been in the last 6 years (2020, 2022, and now 2026)
Records date to 1872
New Euro seasonal data out today remains consistent for winter
Milder than usual and stormy here in New England
(Our annual WBZ winter outlook airs soon and we'll be digging into this)
Gradually will start to feel more like November as we head into the weekend/next week. Keeping in mind that average highs by next week are in the low 50s. Best chance of a legit colder shot looks like the end of next week. #wbz
Our long dry streak almost at an end. Watching for a heavy rain risk later Friday - Friday night in particular, where over 2" could fall. Most likely spot would be SE Mass. #wbz
