Crews continue making progress restoring power following Tuesday evening’s severe storms. About 6,400 customers remain without power, down from more than 62,000 impacted. We expect to have power restored in most areas by late this evening. In some areas north of the river, where damage was most severe, outage restoration is expected to be complete by noon Thursday. Crews will continue working safely until all customers are restored. If you see a downed power line, stay at least 30 feet away and assume it is energized. Strong storms, including some with winds up to 70-80 mph, moved across the Evergy service area Tuesday evening, knocking out power to more than 62,000 customers. Right away all available Evergy crews went to work, and power has been restored to more than 80% of customers impacted. As of 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, about 10,500 customers are without power. Today additional crews from across the Evergy service area and contractors will help with restoration in the Kansas City Metro area, particularly north of the Missouri River, in the Gladstone, Avondale and Liberty areas, where tornado sirens sounded Tuesday night. These areas saw the most damage including reports of extensive tree damage and large trees down throughout the Northland. Crews will continue working around the clock to safely restore power to all affected customers. Estimated restoration times are not yet available as damage assessments continue. In Sedalia, we’re making room for growth while strengthening local reliability. Crews are rebuilding the Sedalia West substation as part of the Mitchell project, replacing existing infrastructure and preparing the local grid for growing electricity needs. The project will also give us more flexibility to expand the transmission system and support the Sedalia area as needs change. Together, these improvements will help strengthen reliability and build a more resilient, flexible grid for the Sedalia community.
