Great tweet, David.
Back in 2010, the minimum wage was £12,064 and the 'higher earner' band started at £43,875.
You only paid 40% tax once you were earning 3.6x the minimum wage.
There was clear incentive to progress, learn and aspire for more.
As things stand, you now start paying 40% tax once you earn £50,270 which is just 1.83x the minimum wage.
If it was the same multiple as 2010, the 'higher earning' band would be £98,841 and everyone below this amount would be paying 20%.
Someone on £98,841 is effectively losing out on £9714.20 net per year if the bandings had simply moved in line with previous multiples relative to minimum wage.
This is one of the reasons why the middle class is being eroded and why there's a cost of living crisis in the UK.
Oh this will be fantastic for small businesses.
Who will pay for this? The customer which will be all of us.
Try raising the personal allowance threshold which would help families a lot more than this.
The people making these decisions couldn’t run a bath.
Long gone.

Why are the government telling us to stockpile food and water?
What do they know that we don’t. Something sinister is going down.
Russia isn’t the threat either.
I see MJW is upsetting every Cnut over his opinion on the tiered system and qualifying debate again.

Our NHS is truly fucked.
23 hours exactly sat in A&E and the surgical assessment ward and bloods and CT scan in between.
Nurses and Dr’s trying their best.
How does this get fixed?
Not good enough, but politicians wouldn’t go through this to know.
Lives will be lost.

This needs sorting now. What if City win the league again which is highly likely.
It’s making a mockery of the game.
They should be suspended, surely?
🚨💣Gary Neville admits he’d be delighted to avoid covering Manchester City until their financial case is resolved!
Speaking after City’s win at Anfield, Neville said:
🗣️ “If you could take me off Man City games moving forward for the next few months until the verdict’s been heard, I’d be ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED.”
He praised City’s performance but admitted the ongoing case remains a cloud over their achievements:
🗣️ “They’ve done a brilliant job here today. They’ve obviously dominated the game in the last 20 minutes from the red card onwards. They’ve dug in.”
Neville also warned that if the guilty verdicts are confirmed in January or February, the consequences could be enormous for the club and the Premier League.
🗣️ “This is REALLY BAD for the Premier League, and it’s going to continue for a few months.”
