Why is your health insurance tied to your job? In the 1940s, the U.S. government capped cash wages. To compete for labor, companies started offering untaxed health coverage instead. In 1954, Congress made it permanent, locking Americans into getting healthcare from their employers forever.

“No one buys from another exactly the same amount sold. Instead, three- or four- or five-way trade – called multilateral trade – occurs, and one country’s imbalance with another country is matched by its opposite balance with still another.” - Armen Alchian

Nonetheless, nostalgia for candy of days gone by has turned into a marketing ploy. While some of us are thinking, “This doesn’t taste as good as I remember,” other firms are bringing us back things we haven’t seen in years.

“Tariff policy beneficiaries are always seen, but its victims are mostly unseen. Politicians love this. The reason is simple. The beneficiaries know for whom to cast their ballots and to whom to give campaign contributions. Most often, the victims do not know whom to blame for their calamity.” - Walter Williams 😯

"For most economies, especially those in the West, a growth of 9.95% would be celebrated—but in Vietnam, it has caused legislators to go into a panic. Despite achieving the fastest economic growth since 2022, it has fallen short of a target set by Vietnam’s National Assembly in April 2026, of an average annual growth of at least 10% over the next five years. It is for this reason that Vietnam is banking on the new free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Area (EFTA) to provide the final boost." - Jake Scott

"The phrase “free public service” is seductive. It suggests generosity, fairness, and shared goods. But for the poor, “free” often means something entirely different: hours lost, dignity stripped, and opportunities shut off." - Lika Kobeshavidze
