This means that PFAS contamination is probably worse than we realize.
According to a new study, US drinking water could contain double the #PFAS levels currently reported by regulators. Here’s how scientists used computer modeling to reveal these findings.

It's all connected: generative AI can compound already-widespread political disinformation, making climate disasters even more dangerous. This is just one of the reasons why we fight to hold Big Tech accountable! grist.org/extreme-weather/ex…

Oh, good. More monopolizing by food corporations with histories of price gouging and labor rights violations. Just what we need! 🙄
BREAKING: DoorDash is in advanced talks to acquire its delivery rival Instacart, per WSJ. The mega-merger could be finalized as soon as this week, and it would value Instacart at around $17 billion.

Hear this recording of a data center? Across the country, people are protesting data centers' noise + pollution, but Big Tech and the fossil fuel industry want to bypass public opinion via a permitting reform bill. Tell your Senators to oppose this bill: fwwat.ch/4dKYK0m

Ask anyone who lived through stretches of 100°+ weather over the summer: cooling systems aren't a luxury anymore. As the fossil fuel industry continues to heat up our planet, access to cooling is part of safe housing. grist.org/extreme-heat/as-ex…

Tobacco, fossil fuels and now microplastics: these industries have long known exactly how they've harmed us. This is more proof that we need better regulatory oversight, because corporations can't be trusted to monitor themselves.
The chemical industry has known for decades that ingested microplastics can infiltrate vital organs, an investigation has found. e360.yale.edu/digest/chemica…

Do you ever think that Anthropic and other AI corporations might not be totally trustworthy?
NEW: Anthropic’s filing appears to partly walk back—or at least massage—the co-founders’ pledge to commit 80 percent of their personal equity holdings in the AI startup to philanthropic causes, a commitment made when the startup was founded. Those acts of philanthropy, the filing suggests, are “voluntary, revocable expressions” that “do not constitute binding obligations.” motherjones.com/politics/202…

Iowans monitor water nitrate levels themselves because the government won't properly regulate pollution from factory farms. The state's lax approach to permitting costs Iowans their health and is, as our own Tarah Heinzen says, "completely untenable." insideclimatenews.org/news/2…

This story from Finland about how Google illegally cleared a quarter million trees to build a data center is a reminder of what we stand to lose if we allow tech companies to build these facilities without regulation – in the U.S. and around the world. motherjones.com/politics/202…

The EPA archive has historically been a resource for climate researchers and policymakers and "a tool for 'democratic oversight.'" That, of course, is totally at odds with the priorities of this administration. 🙄😠
In a little-noticed webpage update, the Environmental Protection Agency has announced a plan to decommission its online web archive at the end of the year, a move that would wipe tens of thousands of publicly available environmental resources from the web. motherjones.com/environment/…

Here’s why we shouldn’t privatize a public good 👇 Back in 2015, our researchers found corporate owned water systems charged higher bills. Since then, that extra cost of corporate control has only grown: fwwat.ch/4y9OIMP
