💜 Domestic Violence Awareness Month: Abuse Isn't Always Physical
Abuse can take many forms, and not all of them leave visible bruises.

🕊️ Five years ago, we lost Gabby, a daughter, sister, friend, and light whose impact continues to shine. Five years without you. Forever loving you. Forever saying your name. Forever turning love into purpose. 🤍🦋 Be kind. Live fully. Carry her light forward. #TogetherWeCan 💜

Inspired in part by the story of Gabby Petito about the warning signs and risks associated with domestic violence, as well as the importance of recognizing and responding to indicators of escalating danger, ISP initiated legislation to strengthen the use of lethality assessments in Illinois. Lethality assessments are tools designed to help identify victims who may be at high risk of serious injury or death due to domestic or intimate partner violence. Under Senate Bill 3048, IDHS, with ISP cooperation, will engage with stakeholders and develop a toolkit containing model policies and protocols law enforcement agencies can use to develop their own domestic violence lethality assessment policies, protocols, training, and referrals to domestic violence services.

ALT A person sits with their knees drawn up, resting their forehead on their arms. The focus is on a raised hand in front. Beside the person, there is text about domestic violence incidents, emphasizing the importance of identifying high-risk cases and training law enforcement as per SB 3048. The quote is attributed to Brendan F. Kelly, ISP Director.
What are we up to? 📢 Continuing to advance our mission through education, advocacy, partnerships, scholarships, and training. Together, we're working to prevent domestic violence, support families of missing persons, and build safer communities.

Advocacy extends beyond awareness!
We're proud to support domestic violence legislation across the country, including New York's Lethality Assessment Bill, awaiting the Governor's signature. Every step toward stronger protections matters.

Help us share HOPE this holiday season!
This time of year, we gather with our families and loved ones to celebrate and reflect with gratitude on what has passed and look forward with anticipation to what’s ahead. But across the United States, there are hundreds of thousands of families with empty chairs at their tables. Whether their loved one is missing or the victim of an unsolved violent crime, these families spend each day searching, advocating, and waiting for answers.
We are incredibly grateful to be part of a community that consistently supports families facing the unimaginable. This holiday season, we invite you to join Season of Justice and Light The Way in our “Hope for the Holidays” initiative. All it takes is a few minutes to send a message of love, support, and hope to families who are missing someone dear to them.
Your words remind them that they are not alone and that we stand beside them in their fight every single day.
Let’s share hope together.
