Arizona is going to be in the CFP hunt further into the season than Ohio State, LSU and Texas A&M. Didn’t have that on my bingo card in September

Coaches can fix this.
When they meet with the AIA this offseason.
It’s simple. If you have a below .500 record, you do not qualify for the playoffs, unless there’s not enough .500 or above teams in the bracket.
Fair?

The warning signs concerning the integrity of the @MaxPreps algorithm have been there for weeks. MP failed miserably at the one job they had, but the real disappointment is with the AIA, who is complicit in this clown show. They used the very kids they were meant to protect as guinea pigs in an experiment to find a formula that shields them from any blame. Coaches and players are held accountable every day, but there will be no accountability at the AIA. There won’t even be a “We are sorry, we made a mistake.” Instead, they will cite SOS and say this is what coaches and ADs wanted. Within a week this will all blow over, the AIA will rake in the money during the playoffs, and there will likely be a change next season. Meanwhile, there are kids across the state who earned playoff berths…only to have their hopes crushed because the people in charge would not do anything about a system they knew was broken.

The feeling of watching your seniors clean out their lockers after going 8-2 and missing the playoffs, without any reasoning is beyond disheartening

I’m not going to say I’m happy that it’s happening to the biggest division in Arizona but the small schools have been complaining about their playoff seeding for two or three weeks. If we get enough of the right people involved maybe there will be at least a conversation.

Since we have new angry people this week, figure I’ll give this another run. Only thing I’d change is capping the margin of victory at 35. This fix might work. . . .
We were very close to the Doomsday Scenario occurring in the football power points this year. A breakdown of it and an idea of how this can all be fixed. Simpler just might be better. sports360az.com/opinion-the-…

I talked to a few head coaches at the 4A, 5A, and 6A level and asked them if they endorsed the AIA’s decision to use the MaxPreps formula.
One 4A coach told me no.
Two 6A coaches told me they endorsed the decision, one told me he didn’t.
I talked to two 5A coaches, one on the west and one on the east side, both had interesting answers.
West: “I can’t say if we did or didn’t because it would have been our athletic director. I have never in my life had any dialogue with the AIA regarding anything ever.”
East: “I wasn’t asked my opinion. They just told me this was the plan.”
@AZHSFB
The AIA just sent an email to statewide media regarding the final football rankings and MaxPreps’ formula:
“Following an exciting conclusion to the football regular season for all conferences, the brackets are now live for the 6A and Open Divisions, and each of those teams are set to begin their playoff runs using a rankings formula maintained by MaxPreps that has been utilized all season.
The current version of the MaxPreps formula was new this year to the AIA and endorsed by football coaches from around the state.
Cumulative strength of schedule for the teams a school defeats during the season and the matchups between two higher-ranked teams at any point during the season are factors that are a part of the final outcome.
For more information, the following FAQ page breaks down some aspects of the formula, which is located on the football rankings page on AZPreps365.com.

The AIA wishes the teams now starting their postseason journeys, as well as the squads making their way through all postseason brackets, the best of luck.”
