Abolish the Indian Act. We have nothing to lose but our chains. We will, of course, need new legislation that is an interface between the Federal government and First Nations. And this MUST be created alongside Chiefs and First Nation governments every step of the way. But it is time to move past the era of this outdated, racist, and patriarchal legislation. I support Prime Minister Carney’s work to position Canada as a global leader in human rights and democracy. The Indian Act is inconsistent with achieving that vision. Our laws at home should reflect the values we champion around the world. It’s time for a relationship with First Nations people that reflects who we are as Canadians today, recognizes nationhood, and lives up to the true nature of reconciliation.

NEW: I asked Health Minister Sylvia Jones why cancer patients like 31-yr-old Sabrina Apitz-Grossman are being denied funding for potentially life-saving treatment abroad. Jones defended the government's decision to tighten its rules for funding out-of-country drug treatments.

How much of our education taxes collected are actually being spent on education? Mike Harris uploaded our education taxes that we pay (as a part of our municipal property taxes) to the Province @ETFOeducators
Since taking office, the Ontario Conservative government has underfunded public education by $6.5 billion. David Mastin, @ETFOpresident, explains the impact on students to thousands at the Toronto rally to defend publicly funded education. #OntEdUnited

Every single union in this province needs to stand in solidarity with the teacher's unions and create a #GeneralStrike. Only then are we going to see the changes that workers can enact when they employ meaningful protest tactics.

It's municipal election day in Ontario! Wherever you are, VOTE! And as any good Mississauga resident will tell you, it's important to do your homework. Know who your candidates are and vote for someone who will do the best job for your family and community. Good luck, all!

I am the only democratic candidate for Waterloo Regional Chair. @RobFlackEML ‘s appointed puppet will be chased out of Waterloo Region. Get out!
Yesterday, I registered as a candidate for Waterloo Regional Chair. Waterloo Region is not interested in having our Chair appointed by the Province. We would like to continue with democratic elections of a local resident and representative @Wayne_Gates @JeffBurch_ @StephenBlais @krista95809544 @mom2jnp @kthomason @marcolongo_mike @Wilmot_CAN @CFifeKW @imherenow1 @TDotResident @corruptario @AislinnClancyKC @TomRakocevic @chrisglover @normsworld

How’s @fordnation planning to make money from this one? Or is it just that he can do more mob boss style stuff when his friends have access to this info digitally? Or both?

Ontario is half a trillion in debt. Interest payment on debt is the fourth-largest line item in the provincial budget. It's fantastic for the bust out. It leaves Ontario broke, in debt, with no assets to sell. A bankrupt government can't provide government services, see...
Ontario's Fall Economic Statement drops one week from today. The Finance Minister says deficits will be deeper, but there are red lines the Ford government won't cross to get back in the black. ctvnews.ca/toronto/politics/…

NEW: Education Minister Paul Calandra tells me he's "very excited" to have Stan Cho on his team, and that the "quality of his work since he's been an MPP is literally second to none." Premier Ford announced Cho will be joining Calandra’s team as a parliamentary assistant — just three months after Cho resigned from cabinet for charging taxpayers $16,000 in Toronto hotel stays. The new role comes with a $22,500 pay bump. Ford declined to comment. Story: thetrillium.ca/insider-news/…

This is deeply concerning. Brad Bradford is simply another Ford lackey here simply so Doug can have more power to sell off Ontarios natural resources to his southern DaddyDJT. Do not trust Brad BradFORD or Doug Ford. Never forget..... ➡️#DOUGFORDISMAGA
World renowned environmentalist and activist David Suzuki spoke out Wednesday about mayoral candidate Brad Bradford’s plan for Toronto’s water and how it is managed, saying a fundamental need should not be seen as an avenue to make money. tinyurl.com/bddm9dkh

$117 million would cover the cost of employment of 1695 educational assistants for your kids' schools. You got ads telling you how good things are in Ontario instead. #onted #onpoli #cutshurtkids
NEW: The Ford government has broken its own record for ad spending. Internal documents show its advertising bill climbed to more than $117 million last year, according to internal documents — the highest total in a single year in Ontario’s history. A breakdown of how the money was spent in this story by me and @CharliePinkerto: thetrillium.ca/news/governme…

To really understand modern right wing populism you need to go back to where it all began and who they influenced. They are all connected by the same Harper and Trumpian conservative ambition for power and control without having the real skills to lead.

Baby Anhelina and her mom Inna were buried today. Anhelina's stroller was put into her grave together with her. She was in the stroller when the Russian drone attacked.
Baby Anhelina and her mom Inna were killed by Russia yesterday. Anhelina was just over a year old. Her mom, Inna Mariukhna, was a primary school teacher. They were in the park in Nova Vodolaha, Kharkiv region, when a Russian drone attacked. Little Anhelina was killed in her stroller. Her mom died of her injuries in hospital. Another girl killed in the strike was just 11 years old. Six people lost their lives from that Russian strike. All of them had simply been spending time in the park. At least 15 more were injured, including seven kids. Deepest condolences...

Can I take a moment to give a shout out to my Ward 6 colleague, Councillor @JoeHorneck? Joe is exactly the kind of person we want in municipal government. He loves strengthening our communities and working to improve everything closest to the people. This is great work, Joe.❤️

I want everyone to know! Please share it all over the world! The @NHL @Capitals know well that through theirs stance, they are supporting and legitimizing horrific Russian atrocities. Atrocities like the one shown in the photo, along with thousands of others. NHL will pay for this!

NEW: An Ontario cancer patient is taking the Ford government to court for refusing to fund a U.S. treatment that could save her life. "People are just being told to die." The government pointed to cost savings as one of the reasons it is limiting which patients can receive funding for out-of-country treatments. Story: thetrillium.ca/news/health/p…
