"Greg Sharpe is probably the biggest reason why I am a sports broadcaster today.” Last night, Nebraska student Harmon Johnsen joined K-State student Nate Lowden to call the Greg Sharpe Scholarship Game — an exhibition basketball game between the universities. A 1986 K-State graduate, Sharpe served as the Voice of the Wildcats from 1996–2002 before becoming the Voice of the Huskers in 2007. “I remember listening to Greg call baseball and football, as well as host Sports Nightly growing up in western Nebraska. I got to work with Greg during my freshman year as a camera operator for the Husker Football Show when he was hosting. He was always willing to offer advice and was the type of guy you wanted to be around.” Today, Sharpe’s legacy lives on in students like Harmon and Nate. Upon his death, his family established the Greg Sharpe Sports Broadcasting Scholarship Fund at both the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications and the A.Q. Miller School of Media and Communication at Kansas State University. “I hope people feel inclined to donate to the funds at both schools, if able. The scholarships that bear Greg's name will support future generations of broadcasters who will hopefully have the same impact on the communities they will serve in their careers."
