What do you think the key issues are in preventing #womeninSTEM from accessing and applying for #fellowships? What would you like to see improved?
... facilitating fellowship applications, improving and standing over #EDI procedures, allowing equal access to funding opportunities. Through conversations like these, we are heading in the right direction.
...supportive work environments. The pathway to #Professor is not always straight, or smooth, and that's absolutely normal and ok, providing opportunity to explore new fields and alternative pathways inc. #altacademia. There is still a lot of work to be done on...
And done! What a wonderful evening with such a diverse range of speaker, and attendees. We learned lots about what is helpful and unhelpful for aspiring #postdocs. Key themes were #impostersyndrome, #mentorship, #academicleadership #advocacy & collaborative...
Thanks for coming @AtheneDonald it was a joy to hear you speak :)
Looking forward to tonight’s @LindemannTrust event on #scientificWomen, exploring experiences of women in physical science. There’s still time to apply for their postdoctoral fellowships to research in US
Networking, refreshments and now roundtable discussions. It is vital to gather tangible feedback to see how we can improve our #fellowships and see what the main challenges are faced by #PhDstudents, #postdocs and #academics in the UK today.
Our last speaker is Mary Rees, speaking about the rediscovered joy of research in retirement. Maths is hard, the research is challenging and it's good to take breaks occasionally to enjoy life outside academia - the #worklifebalance is key!
#ScientificWomen
Another past #LindemannFellow is Phillippa Cooper, who left her academic pathway after COVID to move to industry, working at @AstraZeneca, highlighting the need for work life balance, acknowledging #impostersyndromeand the value of good #mentorship
Our next speaker is Chandrima Gangly, a past #Lindemann Fellow, talking about finding strength in being a #womaninSTEM and funding your place in a male dominated environment #ScientificWomen
First speaker up is @AtheneDonald talking about her science career, the importance of acknowledging #ImposterSyndrome and not allowing modesty to hold you back. Speak up for yourself and trust your mentors!
And we are off! #Lindemann #WomenInScience #ScientificWomen Intro to the Lindemann Trust with Prof. James Raven and @KarenMooney01
Tomorrow we're hosting a #WomeninScience event focused on finding out more about experiences of women in the #physicalsciences & how we can make our fellowships work harder to get more women into STEM. Follow @LindemannTrust and #ScientificWomen for live tweets from the event
We need to do more to make sure we achieve this, to make it easier for #womeninSTEM to progress through education, training and onto a supportive and successful career path. Our #fellowships can help & we are looking for ways to make them even better

In the UK, although women make up 47% of the UK workforce, they are only only 24% of the UK STEM workforce
