On 12 April, Hungarians not only brought about genuine political change at home, but also gave hope to many countries across the region and to freedom-loving people around the world.
Important days lie ahead: making the secret police files and private equity funds public, introducing a wealth tax on billionaires, deciding on the appointment of the new Prosecutor General, establishing 24 December as a public holiday, and debating the 2027 budget.
Back in Parliament today from 1 PM.
Today in Parliament, Fidesz and KDNP sided with billionaires, multinational companies, mine owners and polluting businesses — against Hungarian families and businesses.
Fidesz called Hungarians lazy.
A complete transformation of the cultural sector, too. An end to political funding networks and wasteful funding handed out to political allies.
The 2027 budget will bring institutional reform, a restructuring of cultural institutions and organisations, and significantly greater support for genuine cultural activities.
From today, the reign of terror and wastefulness under General Director Szilveszter Ókovács at the State Opera House is over.
The new head of @OperaBudapest will be selected through an open and transparent application process.
Authorities discovered safes weighing 1,660 kg of the kind used by banks and pawnshops inside a soundproofed room secured by a security door in the home of Miklós Seszták, a member of parliament and former minister under @PM_ViktorOrban.
Fulfilling one of TISZA’s key promises, we will make the secret police files from the socialist dictatorship public on 4 November.
This will be a difficult and sensitive issue for many families, but without confronting the past, there can be no genuine political change.
In the 2027 budget, we will allocate 63 billion forints less to public service media than this year, and zero forints to propaganda.
Instead, we will spend on healthcare, education, construction, security, tax cuts and wage increases.
The TISZA government submitted Hungary's 2027 budget to Parliament just a few minutes before midnight.
Economic development, fairness, humanity.
Step by step.
Today, together with members of the Hungarian government, I welcomed the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, to Parliament.
I thanked President @AlsisiOfficial for Egypt's efforts to foster peace and security in the Middle East and Europe. We agreed on the importance of combating illegal migration and bringing the ongoing international conflicts to an end.
We agreed that, building on the longstanding friendship between Hungary and Egypt, we would further strengthen cooperation in the fields of economic development, security, water management, energy and education.
The Hungarian and Egyptian transport ministers have reached a constructive, forward-looking agreement on the delivery of railway carriages being manufactured for Egypt at the Dunakeszi Vehicle Repair Plant. Hungarian State Railways will manufacture a further 44 carriages by October 2027, and we will bring the contracts signed in 2018 to a close without legal disputes.
We inherited a bankrupt vehicle repair plant from the previous government, along with unfulfilled commitments to Egypt. The TISZA government therefore had to resolve this commercial and diplomatic issue in a way that would restore confidence and reassure our Egyptian partners.
The Hungarian government intends to make use of the expertise of specialists at the now state-owned Dunakeszi Vehicle Repair Plant. The two sides will therefore explore opportunities for further cooperation on transport infrastructure development.
The court sentenced former Fidesz MP István Boldog to five years' imprisonment for multiple counts of bribery.
After the official schedule in Prague had concluded, I met with @oliver_adamek, a Czech journalist who has not only learned Hungarian but also written a book about the changes taking place in Hungary.
It is encouraging to see how many people across Central Europe are interested in what has happened in our country in recent years.
