Reform UK’s @ReformUKSam Journet has resigned from the @Essex_CC cabinet after just 4 months in the role.
There’s clearly more to this than he just “can’t cope with the workload” (it was his decision to stand for both Basildon and Essex seats).
Let’s look at Journet’s year as a councillor:
2025
He filmed a disabled man and made allegations about his behaviour, leading to calls for an apology and training.
He was arrested on suspicion of stalking, harassment and a public order offence.
He faced complaints from council staff about intimidation, disruption and entering staff-only areas.
2026
Former Reform colleague Sarah Shields accused him of prolonged bullying and derogatory remarks about her dyslexia.
He received complaints about filming council staff and residents using camera-enabled glasses.
He pledged to donate his councillor allowance. There’s no evidence he has.
Residents launched a petition questioning his suitability to serve as Mayor of Basildon.
Genesis Jewellery Ltd was compulsorily struck off following overdue filing requirements.
He faces questions over missing company accounts, discrepancies in declarations of interests and a unsatisfied county court judgment.
So what’s this really about?

Reform Sunderland: What are they hiding?
Reform UK in Sunderland have updated a swathe of councillor information on the Register of Interests. This happened after we exposed multiple councillors having not reported business interests. It begs the questions:
Why did it take us to find so many, for them to act?
Does their updating them stand as an admission of guilt on not reporting interests?
Sunderland Reform UK Leader @CllrChrisEynon has not said a word, it's time to take responsibility. @SunderlandUK needs to urgently act on this.
The updates:
Carol Giles - no disclosure of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW NHS Trust) employment. Her husband, also a councillor has removed this disclosure on his.
Ciara Hudspith / Chris Eynon - partners and have discrepancy between their ROIs. Ciara Hubspith has now REMOVED a business interest for Chris Eynon.
Heather Finlay - hasn’t reported a second interest on her ROI (after we identified a first missing one). She has finally added her second missing interest.
Janis Berzemnieks - non disclosure of his GXO Logistics employment.
Why did they all lie?
The following have not changed anything:
David Wales - hasn’t reported an interest on his ROI.
Tommy Steele - failed to declare building company employment, a company that has worked on a major Sunderland project.

Reform UK are replacing Staffordshire leader with Hayley Coles.
Yes, the Deputy Leader who censored libraries in Staffordshire by dictating what types of display could be put up to educate people (ie banning Pride and Black History displays).

If you don't think @reformparty_uk are trying to spread division, look at this.
They're currently spending £6-7k on this ad campaign on Meta targeting 65 postcode areas, covering a substantial proportion of England and Wales.
Their aim? To data harvest via a petition on 'face coverings', but of course using the burqa as their hook.

Hi @Nigel_Farage, thought you might like an update on how your friend @ReformUKSam here is doing.
Since you went to Basildon, he and his friends lost the Billericay East Town Council by-election that Reform UK threw everything at. You know, because that's why you visited, wasn't it?
Today he's resigned from the Essex CC cabinet (we think he jumped before he was pushed).
