Special episode: Post-Midterms. What does it mean for the tech competition?
Democrats take both chambers in January, and voters in at least 38 communities restricted data centers. Josh Hodges and @michael_kuiken , one Republican and one Democrat, on what comes next for AI. @Ylli_Bajraktari and Jenilee Keefe Singer host.
Live Thursday at 12 PM ET
🎧 New on NatSec Tech: The headlines say munitions shortage. The real story is bigger.
Aging weapon systems, slow maintenance, and siloed, manual processes are straining U.S. military readiness and, with it, deterrence.
@JeanneMeserve sits down with Tara Murphy Dougherty, CEO of Air, to unpack what she calls the readiness gap: the widening distance between what the frontline needs and what the system delivers.

Which should the next Congress tackle first?
Chips are the shortage of the moment. The stack is the contest that lasts.
American policy has focused on one layer of the AI stack: hardware. It is a real bottleneck, and it fits familiar tools like export controls. But the stack has seven layers, and the ones above the chip are where early leads turn into lasting advantage.
The American lead across those layers is real. It is not self-executing.
In our latest newsletter, SCSP’s James Ryseff lays out the full stack and why leadership must extend across all of it.

China’s AI labs are running a modern version of the Soviet Union’s 1949 playbook.
Instead of recruiting spies, they’re using tens of thousands of fraudulent accounts to query American frontier models at industrial scale, then training their own models on the responses. It’s called adversarial distillation, and it lets Chinese labs sidestep the compute, cost, and safety testing that building frontier AI requires.
In SCSP’s new white paper, Lara Jolicoeur and Evan Armstrong examine:
- Why Chinese firms distill and how they hide it through gray-market “transfer stations”
- How extracted capabilities reach the PLA and the Ministry of Public Security
- What the U.S. Government can do to raise the cost of extraction
Prepared, not panicked.
How can the U.S. strengthen election security ahead of the midterms? On President’s Tech Brief, @Ylli_Bajraktari , @michael_kuiken , and Josh Hodges discuss using AI for defense and transparency to counter foreign influence.
