Why is the Great Wall of China not mentioned in the writings of Marco Polo?
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence people. Just because you think someone *should* say something does not obligate that they have to.
I am very thankful to move into the role of Pastor of Counseling and Discipleship and Director of the First Counseling Training Center. For a long time, biblical counseling has been a passion for Jenny and me, and it is a privilege to be fully dedicated to this ministry. We believe the gospel can transform anyone because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.
Thanks to the hard work of previous directors such as Ernie Baker and Ryan Trzeciak, we have hundreds of people from around the world who have been trained through First Baptist. We are dreaming, planning, and praying for many more!
Come join us!

DSM-6 is a grift/mistake whose only real purpose is publishing profits for Am Psychiatric Assoc.
Changing its name from 'Diagnostic & Statistical Manual' to 'Diagnostic & Scientific Manual' is putting lipstick on a pig.
Giant leaps in neuroscience during past 50 yrs have had absolutely no impact on diagnosis.
"But clinicians should know, all over the world, that the DSM system is a reflection of the “pragmatic” beliefs of mainstream American psychiatry. DSM is not, first and foremost, a reflection of our best science." Nassir Ghaemi
I am very thankful I took Dr. Parker's class on C.S. Lewis and Francis Schaeffer @SBTS. I think about that class often and it continues to shape me. I am grateful for Dr. Parker's investment.
Just saw my former colleague Jim Parker's obituary. We have missed Jim ever since he left us.
He was one-of-kind in so many ways--his intellect, wit, humor, and of course his story-telling. What a wonderful colleague he was at Southern Seminary and what a great brother in Christ.
We grieve in hope of seeing him again when Jesus calls us forth.

In just the past seven years, property tax revenues across Florida’s 67 counties have increased nearly 100 percent. Local governments are taking in almost twice as much money—for more than the inflation in population has increased.
The State of Florida has reduced its budget FOUR YEARS in a row. Local governments can surely do the same.
Amendment 3 creates a path to full elimination of property taxes for homesteaded Floridians. It also provides immediate and meaningful relief for Florida residents by expanding the homestead exemption from non-school property taxes. Vote YES on Amendment 3!
Does biblical counseling blame victims for their suffering?
No. The Bible repeatedly teaches that a person can experience suffering that is unrelated to their own sin. Joseph was a victim of lies, mistreatment, and human trafficking even though he was innocent. “For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.” (Genesis 40:15)
Jesus made it abundantly clear in John 9:1-4 that the blind man was born with his birth defect in order to glorify God, and it was not a result of his sin or the sin of his parents.

🚨 NEW: Kaylub Giamanco, the HERO father who TOOK OUT the Bend, Oregon elementary school shooter last week, tells the story for the first time
"I started hearing children PLEADING for their lives. And then I started hearing gunfire and I just started army crawling faster and faster. And I told myself, this is probably the last thing that I'm ever going to do."
"I have to go in. People are going to die."
"I crawled through the bottom window that was shot out and continued onto the rug inside where there's a little breezeway with stairs."
"And then the special needs classroom was to my left. At that point, I was on the ground on my hands and knees. I re-racked my weapon to make sure that a live round came so that I knew that I was ready to go."
"And then I peeked through the window. And at this point I found my opportunity. And I'd seen a teacher on the left struggling with the gunman on the right with the rifle."
"And I knew that they were on both sides of me, and I knew that he did not know that I was there. And so at that point I swung the door out and open and I stepped in and I fired."
This man deserves the Presidential Medal of FREEDOM! 🇺🇸
Does biblical counseling believe that every counseling problem is caused by sin?
The Bible teaches that when Adam sinned, death, disease, and pain entered into the world. However, biblical counseling does not treat every problem as being caused by the personal sin of the counselee.
There are countless problems that arise because we live in a fallen world and people sin against each other. Job is an example of someone who experienced great suffering even though he was blameless, and Tamar is an example of a victim of horrible abuse who did nothing wrong.
Biblical counseling does not believe, and has never believed, that all counseling problems are the result of unconfessed sin. Counseling problems arise due to sin, suffering, or a combination of both. God’s Word and Spirit enable us to overcome both temptations and trials.
Is biblical counseling just giving people Bible verses?
No. Counselors should never treat the Bible or individuals in a trite and truncated manner. Scripture calls disciples and counselors to meditate upon the law of the Lord day and night, to be conformed to the pattern of sound doctrine, to rightly divide the word of truth, and to live on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
Counselors should be skilled in practically helping others renew their minds according to God’s word. They should follow the model of careful scriptural application demonstrated by the prophets applying the Torah, Jesus applying the Old Testament, and the apostles applying the words of Christ.
It is false to assert that biblical counseling only confronts sin. The Bible repeatedly instructs us to comfort one another during times of hardship and loss (2 Corinthians 13:11). Jesus is the model counselor, and his personal ministry of the Word was one of both confrontation and comfort. We must follow our Lord and Savior’s example in ministering to broken and troubled people.
