Nancy and I caught the inaugural launch of Concord’s Black Heritage Trail yesterday. Vocalist Shy’Kira Allen offered up a stunning rendition of Sam Cooke’s haunting anthem A Change Is Gonna Come.
Susan Foster Jones, Director of Education and Visitor Experience; @MatthewBoger, Member, Museum Board of Governors; and Amanda Lahikainen, Executive Director, walked me through one of the best small museums in the entire country. (2/2)
Dropped in yesterday to the amazing @ConcordMuseum to check out the permanent exhibits. Ralph Waldo Emerson’s library, intact. Henry David Thoreau’s writing desk. (Mind if I sit here for a moment to compose this post? Why, yes, we do!) (1/2)
I was pleased to be welcomed to Spellman by Museum leaders Joe Mullin, Brian Howard, Michael Lawson and Ken Flowers.
And, yes, Spellman is a stamp museum, but because governments have tried to regulate communication through stamps the way they try to regulate communication through the Internet, there’s a lot of just plain history and politics to ponder in Weston.
Drumroll on the “postal history,” please, meaning a vivid picture of communication across physical distance before and after adoption of the telephone.
The Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History is a spectacular gem of an institution hidden in plain sight a couple of miles from Rt. 128 on the campus of Regis College in Weston.
Sen. Ed Markey dropped by Wilson Farm in Lexington. I joined Scott Wilson and daughter Lauren to welcome Ed to the Farm’s Tomato Festival. He got a great reception.
MA Legislature to gas utilities: Good news. We've ended the anti-competitive tilt towards natural gas in MA law. Your "obligation to serve" only fossil fuel is over. commonwealthbeacon.org/energ… via @cwbeacon

Ambitious infrastructure is often top-down, but this one was different. The vision for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail emerged from the grassroots and was nurtured and brought along by local government. This is what federal and state officials love to see.

I was proud to help open the newest section of the Bruce Freeman rail trail today, connecting Concord and Acton. Thanks to #BipartisanInfrastructureLaw funding, this project will pave trails and build bridges for families across the region to enjoy, including my own! – at Concord, MA

Hadn’t done this before: Drove a new EV -- a Kia EV6 -- 392 miles north, through rural New England and Canada, to Quebec City. Joined my colleagues @WBrownsberger, @staterepmike, and @mikeday4rep for two days of climate policy talks with our counterparts in the provincial assembly to discuss green innovation, Quebec hydro, and Quebec-California cap and trade.

Plastics, and waste reduction in general, has been an orphan. We just haven’t managed to acknowledge that reducing waste and reducing plastic is critical to reducing emissions. bostonglobe.com/2023/10/18/s…
