Even after 15 years since the August War, Russian propaganda continues to push the narrative that the war began on August 8, intending to shift blame onto Georgia.
However, the reality is that Russia had been preparing for this war for years, initiating economic, energy, and military provocations. Their military actions began as early as August 1, 2008, with attacks in the Tskhinvali region.
The official start of the war occurred on August 7, when the Russian army invaded the territory controlled by the central government of Georgia. It is essential not to spread Russian propaganda and instead seek accurate information on the events.

According to Georgian intelligence, units from the 58th Russian Army entered the Java region on August 3rd.
As the attacks on Georgian villages persisted, the presence of these units suggested that the Russian army was gathering information for further upcoming military actions.

The August War in 2008 was well-planned and prepared by Russia. A compelling piece of evidence is the evacuation of civilians from the Tskhinvali region by the occupying forces between August 2 and August 6 - just a day before the war commenced.
Russia was well aware of the war's starting date and took calculated steps in advance.

Secretary Blinken announced a pause in $95 million of U.S. aid to the Georgian government due to its anti-democratic actions.
The U.S. will still support programs benefiting the Georgian people and remains committed to Georgia's Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
Full statement:
“On May 23, after anti-democratic actions by the Georgian government, I announced a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation between the United States and Georgia. As a result of that review, the United States is pausing more than $95 million in assistance that directly benefits the Government of Georgia.
The Georgian government’s anti-democratic actions and false statements are incompatible with membership norms in the EU and NATO. While we are pausing our assistance to the Government of Georgia due to those actions, the United States will continue assistance to programs and activities that benefit the people of Georgia by strengthening democracy, rule of law, independent media, and economic development.
Over the 32 years of friendship and partnership between our two countries and our citizens, the people of the United States have provided over $6.2 billion in assistance, contributing to the development and strengthening of Georgia’s economy and democratic institutions. Our support has helped equip and train Georgia’s Defense Forces and Coast Guard, built schools and hospitals, and trained teachers, civil servants, and medical professionals. We will remain committed to the Georgian people and their Euro-Atlantic aspirations.”
June 20 is a significant date in Georgia's recent history.
Five years ago, on June 20, 2019, many people realized that the "Georgian Dream" is an ally of the Kremlin and a tool of hybrid warfare. We remember Irakli Kobakhidze embracing Gavrilov and the session conducted in Russian in the Parliament of Georgia. We also remember how the Georgian people defended their national honor and how the Ivanishvili police brutally assaulted them.
Two years ago, on June 20, 2022, we rallied to support Georgia's national mission. It was proven then that returning home to Europe is a universal value, one that hundreds of thousands of Georgian citizens are ready to fight for.
June 20 embodies stories of bravery, loyalty, and honor, as well as cowardice, cruelty, and betrayal.
Even in 2024, June 20 remains a day of protest. As we prepare to turn our anger into the energy for change, Georgia must win in October.
“Georgian Dream” is planning another physical attack against members of our organization. As usual, information about targeted individuals is being circulated in this Telegram group.
Today, government officials and state-controlled media have been blaming the Shame Movement for the cancellation of the Massive Attack concert at the Black Sea Arena, directly endangering our safety.
We refuse to appeal to law enforcement officers for protection as we do not trust them.
In this situation, we must stay alert, quickly inform each other of any threats, and ask for your support.
Georgian Gov't lied about Shame Movement's "disinformation campaign," leading to Massive Attack canceling the show.
The statement issued by the band leaves no space for interpretation. @MassiveAttackUK stands together with the democracy fighters! 🇬🇪
A few hours after the chairman of the Georgian parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, posted on Facebook that civil society actors were calling, attacking, and insulting MPs, one of the founders of the Shame Movement, Zuka Berdzenishvili, was attacked by three citizens.
In order to win the October parliamentary elections, we, the Georgian people, need to organize ourselves—go to the polls, reach out to the diaspora, and observe the elections!

The Russian law has come into effect. "Georgian Dream" has overridden the president's veto.
With each of us and, therefore, Georgia's future now under threat, we have accepted the challenge.
Previously, our objective was to repeal the Russian law; now, we are uniting to change the government, which we aim to accomplish on October 26, during the parliamentary elections.
1. The government aims to retain power by manipulating the elections. This year, a record number of citizens are expected to participate in the elections, and through this, we will counteract the deceptive tactics of "Georgian Dream."
2. If the government expects public sector employees to back them, we will demonstrate that these employees serve Georgia, not "Georgian Dream."
3. If the government hopes to gather support through intimidation, bribery, and violence, we will demonstrate that the love for our country is not for sale.
4. If the authorities underestimate Georgian immigrants, the one million Georgians living outside the borders of Georgia will reveal the power that each citizen has in various parts of the world.
When the government chooses the Russian regime, we will firmly choose the European Union and a democratic Georgia.
To win the elections, a collective effort from the citizens is necessary - each one of us who has either fought in the streets or supported the protests for a month and a half within Georgia and abroad.
Remember that we will win through our multitude because strength is in unity.

On May 14th, 2024, the ruling party of Georgia, the Georgian Dream, adopted a Russian-style “Foreign Agents Bill.”
The legislation would require media and non-government organizations to register as being under foreign influence if they receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad. The proposed law, reminiscent of Soviet-era practices, would allow the government access to sensitive personal information of organization staff and members, such as emails, phone records, and others. It would allow the government to launch investigations based on anonymous tips.
This move aims to jeopardize Georgia's European integration, coinciding with upcoming negotiations with the European Union. It signals an alarming shift towards Russia and away from Western allies.
