The NHTSA has just officially announced that the 2026 @Tesla Model Y is the first vehicle model to pass the agency’s new advanced driver assistance system tests.
2026 Tesla Model Y vehicles, manufactured on or after Nov. 12, 2025, successfully met the new criteria for four newly integrated advanced safety tests:
• Pedestrian automatic emergency braking
• Lane keeping assistance
• Blind spot warning
• Blind spot intervention
“Today’s announcement marks a significant step forward in our efforts to provide consumers with the most comprehensive safety ratings ever,” said NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison. “By successfully passing these new tests, the 2026 Tesla Model Y demonstrates the lifesaving potential of driver assistance technologies and sets a high bar for the industry. We hope to see many more manufacturers develop vehicles that can meet these requirements.”

Luckily in both cases there was no one exiting the lot. Unfortunately, I'm so close to my destination that I'm not able to give a voice recording to annotate the disengagement. Hopefully my taking over is still being sent to Tesla. Not sure if 12.6.2 is having this issue but wanted to get it out there. @teslasi
Today I had my 2021 HW3 Model Y on 12.6.1 attempt to run a red light. I've heard others report this so wanted to add another data point. I was at the red for about 2 minutes when the car just decided it was done waiting and started moving. Not sure if it would have stopped on its own, I wasn't brave enough to find out.
Just used Grok to explain time dilation to me, and I finally get the concept! Albeit at a fairly elementary level, but it still feels good. I've watched many Youtube videos on this topic and it always seemed to go over my head. I thought I was going to go to the grave without ever understanding this! 🤣 Loving the Grok integration with X! @elonmusk @xai
I was so hopeful but I have to say that other than E2E on the highway, FSD 12.6.1 has been a huge step backwards for me. City streets driving under 45 MPH is super hit and miss. The car has run a red light, starts lane changes and then changes its mind when halfway into the lane, breaks for no apparent reason, speed selection seems worse and in my neighborhood it's pretty much unusable. It drives 16 MPH when it could easily go 25 and stops in the middle of turns. This release just isn't good. I'd go back to 12.5.4.2 at this point since I don't drive on the highway much. I'm hoping they can dial AI3 in but I'm beginning to wonder. It's 1 step forward and 2 steps back at this point. Maybe it's just me?
Two regressions for me on FSD 12.6.1. In slower roads, < 25mph like my neighborhood the car is super hesitant, slow, and indecisive. Reminds me of 11.x instead of 12.x. Lane change indecisiveness is back too. The car starts the lane change then darts back to the original lane. Sometimes it manages to make the lane change, others it abandons the change. Overall the upgrade is good, especially on the freeway, but these regressions are a bummer. @teslasi
Although not perfect, the "smoothness" of FSD 12.5.2.1 vs 12.3.6 is vast, and hands free is a game changer. If Tesla can manage to dial in the auto-speed control, most of my daily driving apart from parking and school drop off is covered. Well done @aelluswamy @Tesla @teslasi !
