Afghanistan imports over 80% of its electricity yet has enormous solar potential.
As #AfghanistanEnergyWeek approaches on 9–10 November, stronger partnerships are key to expanding access to reliable, clean energy across the country.

Reliable electricity makes a difference in classrooms, too.
With solar power support from @UNDP, a school in Afghanistan has overcome major challenges, improved its learning environment and even increased student enrollment.

Meet Gozar 7, an imaginary neighbourhood used in #UNDP training in Kabul.
Through practical exercises, 16 staff from 8 local partner organisations mapped access to water, healthcare and markets and identified barriers facing vulnerable families under #PEWASTOON and #REVIVE.
For a newborn baby, reliable electricity can make all the difference.
With solar power, health workers can now keep baby warmers running, use essential medical equipment and provide care without power interruptions.

The fight against #TB is making progress across Afghanistan. Through @GlobalFund support and #UNDP implementation, 185,629 people were screened in Q3, 13,918 patients started treatment, and treatment success reached an impressive 95.6%, well above target. #EndTB #HealthForAll
A greener future can also create livelihood opportunities. Through #UNDP_REVIVE, plans include planting 30,000 trees across target provinces, alongside cash-for-work & green-jobs opportunities that combine temporary employment with environmental benefits for local communities.
REVIVEII is paving the way for new livelihood opportunities. In its next phase, the project plans to establish 75 solar-powered greenhouses across five Afghan provinces, supporting vulnerable communities with sustainable agriculture, income generation, & resilience.

Stronger communities need infrastructure that responds to local priorities. Through #REVIVEII, 30 community infrastructure schemes are planned across target areas in AFG. Community consultations & site assessments are helping inform the project's preparations.
#UNDP_REVIVE
Between 2023 and 2025, Afghanistan recorded 4.9 million returns, adding pressure on jobs, essential services and infrastructure. Through #REVIVEII, @UNDP is preparing support for communities in targeted provinces, focusing on livelihoods and essential services.
