Sir Patrick Stewart stood for the best in us. I once took Virginia to Buck House for a gathering, hosted by the late Queen, celebrating people who kept giving in later life. Such a privilege to talk with Sir Patrick about gardens & nature. What a loss. 💔

We're happy to share that Kariba continues to make good progress & we hope she'll be able to make her journey to Pangea Elephant Sanctuary next month. Her ear is healing well & the veterinary team now consider her nearly fit to travel. We'll keep you updated as plans progress.

Emergency treatment of a snared lion. It was tourists who first spotted him: a male who should have been in his prime, hobbled by a snare embedded tightly around his left forelimb. Born Free and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) alerted our nearby Veterinary Unit, which works in the Meru landscape. Our team darted him with anaesthetic and removed the snare right there in the bush. The vet’s prognosis? A good chance of recovery, with continued monitoring to see how he heals. Not every lion we reach can be saved, but we go to each one. Working with KWS, our Vet Teams have attended 252 injured lions to date, from spear wounds to human-wildlife conflict injuries. Your donations make this possible.

🐘 After a 3,700 mile journey from Bangladesh to Cyprus, Shoba was left alone when her companion died in 2016. More than a decade later, concerns about her welfare remain. Learn more about Shoba's story and why no elephant should live in isolation: 🔗 bit.ly/4zSvuwy

It started with Pole Pole. It ends with #NoElephantAlone. 43 years ago today, Pole Pole died alone at London Zoo. Her story inspired the creation of Born Free. Today, 22 elephants are still living alone in zoos and circuses across Europe. Learn more: bit.ly/4BbpHDz

Born Free response to President Trump’s AI video

Born Free issues a response to a Truth Social post by President Trump showing AI generated footage of him wrestling and taming a tiger.

You know I’m rarely lost for words. But the crass insensitivity of this post from Trump hard on the heels of a young man losing his life to a captive tiger in a UK zoo beggars belief. The boy’s family must be in bits. Outrageous. @BornFreeFDN will issue a short statement soon.

Born Free has long warned about AI-generated wildlife content that distorts perceptions of wild animals and human-wildlife interactions. Today's AI video shared by Trump, showing him wrestling a tiger, is a troubling example, coming days after a fatal tiger attack.

Our heartfelt thoughts go to the family of the man who died at Yorkshire Wildlife Park & with everyone affected, including those caring for Altai. We're asking the Government to examine whether zoo standards are robust enough to keep people & animals safe bit.ly/4rYpxvf
