ALT Sudan is far from the only country that aid cuts have stretched thin. The U.S. State Department has transferred less than half of the money to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that it normally does, according to an analysis reviewed by Devex contributor Andrew Green — and while State has told CDC to continue its HIV programs, the department has provided no new money to do so (including the several billions recently earmarked by Congress for this very purpose). “How come CDC isn’t getting any money if there’s actually money that’s been appropriated for global health?” asks K.J. Seung, a physician and global health expert who conducted the analysis alongside Partners in Health’s Vincent Lin.
