In February, a set of $APT tokenomics updates was proposed. Here's where each piece stands.
Approved through onchain governance and live:
• Gas fees set 10x higher, with every gas fee burned
• Staking rewards halved from 5.19% to 2.6%
• Supply hard-capped at 2.1B APT
Separately, the genesis unlock schedule for core contributors and investors concluded on October 12, 2026, as published at mainnet launch.
Alongside these updates, Aptos Foundation has committed to locking and permanently staking 210M APT, about 37% of the APT it held at mainnet. Those tokens will never be sold or distributed.

I'm proud of the engineering team at @AptosLabs and their strong commitment to making security a foundational part of our infrastructure.
From day one, we've invested heavily in strengthening MoveVM, improving how code is executed and verified, and building safeguards that protect the network as it grows. As an additional layer of protection, @Aptos employs defense-in-depth independent validation through the VM's runtime checks, ensuring that inconsistent execution states are detected even if they made it past an earlier verification check. Much of this work happens behind the scenes (as it should), but it's critical to building financial infrastructure that people and institutions can trust.
The Move programming language was designed with security at its core, with built-in protections that help developers prevent entire classes of vulnerabilities. We believe it’s one of the most secure foundations for building onchain, and we’re constantly investing in making it even stronger. Our team’s work on defense-in-depth runtime verification has also been published in peer-reviewed research, reflecting our long-standing commitment to advancing security across the broader Move ecosystem: arxiv.org/abs/2606.18064
The recent incident involving Initia is a reminder of why that investment matters. Our team has reviewed the exploit and confirmed that Aptos mainnet is not susceptible under its current MoveVM design. Initia uses an independently maintained implementation of MoveVM that also differs with respect to its integration. For example, since launch, Aptos has disallowed a single transaction from both publishing a module and then executing a script against that module, blocking a key step in the exploit. Aptos also enables additional runtime safety checks, which provide another layer of protection.
MoveVM was designed with security at its core, and we've continued building on that foundation. Security requires constant attention, investment, and improvement, and I'm proud of the team that shows up every day to do that work.
Wishing the @Initia team the best as they work through this incident. We remain ready to provide support if needed!

Our team has confirmed Aptos is protected against this class of exploit by design.
Since launch, Aptos has disallowed publishing a module and executing a script against it in the same transaction, the exact condition required for the attack. This architectural difference means the vulnerability is not possible on Aptos.
We also maintain additional defense-in-depth controls (including paranoid mode) that further reduce risk even if a similar condition were introduced. The Move language itself remains secure when these safeguards are applied.
We're in standby and ready to provide any support if needed for the Move community.
to the best of our knowledge so far, this is a Day 0 bug related to Initia's MoveVM on CosmosSDK that allowed the exploiter to mint additional tokens on the Initia L1 but does not apply to native INIT tokens.
the attacker was able to mint and bridge out ~$2.7m worth of AUSD, ETH, and USDC before the chain was paused.

Confidentiality on @Aptos now spans three opt-in layers, all live on mainnet. Each targets a different part of what's visible onchain, and each opens up something new for builders.
Identity: Keyless Accounts
• Users create and manage Aptos accounts with existing credentials like Google or Apple, verified with zero-knowledge proofs, without publicly tying that identity to an onchain address.
• What it enables: apps that onboard users with a login they already have.
Amounts: Confidential APT
• Users can encrypt balances and transfer amounts. Validators check a zero-knowledge proof that a transfer is valid, while balances and amounts stay confidential. Senders and recipients remain visible onchain.
• What it enables: payments where amounts remain between the sender and the receiver, designed for compliant use cases.
Intent: Encrypted Mempool
• The payload (function called + arguments) is encrypted client-side, ordered while encrypted, and decrypted by validators together only after the block is finalized. Sender and gas fee stay visible.
• What it enables: traders can encrypt the orders they choose, designed to lower MEV risk on those orders, and agents can submit trades with inputs encrypted until execution.
Opt-in by design, built for compliant use.
Confidential APT is available in @PetraWallet and on Confidential Assets Web. Encrypted Mempool is supported in Petra and on @DecibelTrade, and developers can integrate it with the TypeScript SDK (v7.0.0+). Existing Move contracts need no changes.

Trading on @DecibelTrade is getting a new interface: words.
Agent Mode is opening in early access. Traders can ask what's moving, ask why, and have it build the order ticket, all in one conversation.
Nothing executes until the trader confirms. Every confirmed order is settled onchain on Aptos.
AI is the frontier. Awesome to see our lead investors repositioning their latest fund in this direction!
In March, the SEC concluded $APT is a digital commodity.
Now, @AptosLabs and five other blockchain organizations have submitted a joint comment letter that commends the SEC's work and asks it to reflect the "digital commodity" classification in the rule text itself.
In March, the SEC concluded APT is a digital commodity, not a security.
Aptos Labs joined @hedera, @AvaLabs, @StellarOrg, @Cardano_CF, and @chainlink in a joint comment letter to @SECGov on proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, asking it to codify that in the rule text.
Very happy to see how quickly the @SECGov and @CFTC have moved innovation forward. American innovation is well and alive.
.@chainlink is proud to partner with @hedera, @Aptos, @AvaLabs, and @StellarOrg in urging the SEC to codify its digital commodity framework.
Builders need lasting certainty. Codifying this progress would be a meaningful step toward keeping America the home of digital asset innovation.
H/t @jackson_mueller for leading this effort 🫡

Simple parameter changes can materially improve a network’s tokenomics.
In March, @Aptos tokenholders voted to raise gas fees 10x and halve staking rewards. No new mechanism was needed as Aptos has burned every gas fee since launch. However, at the old prices that burn covered just 0.2% of issuance (now ~10%).
The repricing moved both sides at once. The burn went up while validator commission roughly halved along with issuance, and Token Holder Net Income went from around -ve $130K a week in January to positive by May.
Demand held as well. Daily transactions doubled to ~9M even at 10x the old fees, which is why the network now burns more in gas fees than it pays its operators.
The first decentralized, verifiable front running protection is now live in @DecibelTrade!
Trading infrastructure has a choice: collect MEV from users or protect users from MEV. @Aptos chooses the later.
Being fastest is wonderful. Being #1 in security and reliability is something we are more proud of. Enterprise use cases require all 3.
Fast apps start with fast blocks
Among L1s, the quickest chains produce blocks up to 167x faster than the slowest. Milliseconds versus seconds is a gap users feel every day.

1/ Aptos tokenholders overhauled APT’s tokenomics through governance votes in under a month, and the network now generates more from gas fees, which it burns, than it pays its operators.
Token Holder Net Income (THNI), a Blockworks Research metric, turned positive in May and has held since, while Ethereum and Sui still run negative and Solana sits only marginally positive.
Where $APT tokenomics stand after the updates first proposed in February.
Approved through onchain governance:
• Gas fees set 10x higher
• Staking rewards halved from 5.19% to 2.6%
• Supply hard-capped at 2.1B APT
Per @blockworksres, burns now cover ~10% of issuance, up from 0.2% under the previous gas rate, and daily transactions doubled after the change.
The accelerating quantum advancement and cryptography research with AI means the following:
1) Longer-term, software is going to be highly secure and nearly unbreakable. Code will be written by specifications that can be formally verified.
2) Short-to-mid term, weaker software and math will break.
3) Crypto agility (e.g., the ability to rotate to quantum-safe cryptography easily) is necessary for serious financial infrastructure.
4) Decentralized infrastructure must be fast reacting to new and unexpected threats. A payments and/or trading network being offline for days is unacceptable.
Encrypted Mempool.
Now live on Aptos mainnet, it lets users opt in to encrypt a transaction's details until block ordering is finalized, lowering the risk of MEV attacks. Built for traders, institutions, AI agents, and builders.

Happy 4 years of @Aptos mainnet! The tech and products have seen innovation after innovation (it is 8 years including the work we did at Libra/Diem at Meta) but we are still so early on this journey!
Offchain transactions are basically measuring nothing. Anyone can record an offchain state change of 10 trillion per microsecond since none of it happens onchain.
The benchmark to beat for a distributed, horizontally scalable infrastructure is Shardines - already shown 1M+ TPS - reproducible over 1.5 years ago.

Also with MonoMove 10x-50x+ more performant than before, pretty much unbeatable.
