I often get asked why food producers care about reducing waste, because surely more waste means more sales?
Extending shelf-life actually has the opposite effect:
It both reduces waste, for example by providing stores more time to sell the product, and increases sales, for example more stores can order and sell out an entire case of product.

Just one year ago we began our first enterprise roll-out in the UK.
Now we are growing rapidly through the US, signing 3 of the top 5 US chicken producers.
The industry talks and customer reference calls have become an invaluable part of our sales motion.
Very grateful to the FSQA and Food Technical executives who have helped spread the good word about BlakBear!
BlakBear partners with @CranswickPlc to launch a Digital Quality Program, adding digital shelf-life testing for 17 manufacturing sites across the UK using BlakBear's freshness sensors and AI software. This is a milestone for delivering product quality throughout the supply chain.
BlakBear is excited to partner with Cranswick Technical and R&D teams nationwide to roll-out the program. Here’s a snippet from Clive Stephens, Head of Research at Development at Cranswick:
🎙️ “Food should tell you how fresh it is” - that’s our mission at BlakBear, and it just got featured on @BBCWorld's #PeopleFixingTheWorld podcast!
From 11m 25s, @CraigLangran visits our lab as our CEO @MaxMGrell shows how our sensors sniff out spoilage to fight #foodwaste.

Published today in @FoodManufacture, how @Blakbear_ enables the transition to digital expiry dates on food.
Fixed expiry dates are a legacy system that will will not exist next decade. They are great for quality and safety but cause huge amounts of unnecessary waste, because they are chosen to cover a worst-case scenario. Instead of a fixed date, food should tell you how fresh it is. That's why BlakBear exists.
Thank you so much @bethgrylls for visiting and featuring us!
What if food could tell you how fresh it is? The reality is closer than you think…

In 10 years we will think back on printed expiry dates, and how crazy it was to let all that food go to waste.
Expiry dates are chosen to cover a worst-case scenario. That's great for safety and quality, but the unspoken cost is extremely high waste (5-10% in every store, home and restaurant).
Instead of printed dates, food should tell you how fresh is! Thanks @FoodNavigator for sharing how we do it (link below).
And thanks @foodtechinvest for the platform!
