We are, and have sent a letter to Calgary City Council outlining our concerns. We’re urging Council to reduce the proposed water rate increases, phase them in more gradually and find efficiencies first. These increases are unacceptable amid high costs and economic uncertainty.

Tax reform is back in the spotlight. And with rumours of a small business tax rate cut in the Nov. 5 federal budget, we're hearing a familiar argument again that I call “the mantra”:
A lower small business tax rate encourages firms to stay small, so it should be scrapped.

Insurance shouldn't cost more just because your business is in NL.
At 15%, small businesses here pay Canada's highest retail sales tax on insurance premiums. NB, PEI, NS, AB and BC charge none.
We're calling on the provincial government to eliminate it!

Yes, we've read all the commentary suggesting that the lower small business rate causes firms to stay small. Here are the data that counter this argument - have a close look at figure 5. cfib-fcei.ca/en/research-eco…
For some, the argument seems to be that the best way to help small businesses grow is to tax them at the higher rate. We believe raising the small business threshold is a much better approach.

I was pleased to co-host the All Party Entrepreneurship Caucus this week!
It was a productive discussion about the challenges Canada’s small businesses are facing due to tariffs and the uncertainty they’ve created. It was very clear from the discussion that the government needs to be more transparent about the applicability of Canadian tariffs.
A special thanks to the @CFIB for consistently highlighting how the government can better support our SMEs and entrepreneurs.
I look forward to expanding on these discussions going forward!

It was great to join @AmexCanada and @cdnbiz on their panel at the Backing Small, Building Big event in Toronto last night. A nice evening meeting many incredible entrepreneurs, including winners Rachel Adjei and Kate MacNeill.
If true, these budget rumours would be a big deal for small business. CFIB has been pushing hard for a reduction in the small business corporate rate from 9 to 6%. In addition, for more than a decade, we've been calling for a lower rate of EI premiums for smaller payrolls. We've suggested smaller firms have their EI rate tied 1:1 with the employee rate, rather than the current 1.4 multiplier. Fingers crossed for Nov 5.
