The tragic fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright claimed the lives of four Canadian Armed Forces members and injured 39 others. Our hearts are with the families grieving loved ones and those facing a difficult road to recovery.
Jewish federations across Canada and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) have established a donation fund to support affected military families. Through the Jewish Federations of Canada – UIA’s Canadian Forces Base Wainwright Emergency Fund, we will grant all funds raised to Together We Stand Foundation, a Canadian charity dedicated to helping those who stand behind our men and women in uniform.
All donations will provide vital assistance to those affected by this tragedy, including emergency support for essential needs, as they navigate the difficult months ahead.
Please give generously. Stand with our military families. Stand with Canada.

Today, millions of Israelis are heading to the polls to elect the 26th Knesset in its 78-year modern history -- a powerful demonstration of Israel’s democratic institutions and the diversity of its society.
Across the country, Israelis from all different walks of life, including Jews, Arabs, Druze and other minorities, are exercising their right to vote and determine their country's future.
In a region where democratic elections cannot be taken for granted, Israel’s electoral system stands in sharp contrast to entities like the Palestinian Authority, where President Mahmoud Abbas remains in office more than two decades after his election in 2005.

The Ontario Legislature is back, and there is some important work to finish.
Following the attack on a Belleville synagogue, the urgency of strengthening community safety is clear.
CIJA is calling on legislators to pass Bill 119 before the Legislature rises in December, while continuing to push for stronger accountability in our schools and universities.

“Our kids are growing up to be warriors. Warriors of courage. Warriors of conviction.”
After the homes of Jewish students living outside Western University in London, Ontario, were targeted with a Nazi swastika, one father is speaking out about the courage and pride of his daughters and their friends.
In an interview with the @nationalpost, Darren Slavens described how the students responded with solidarity and defiance, affirming their Jewish identity and promptly engaging authorities.
The perpetrator has since been arrested and charged with a hate-motivated crime under Canada's new Combatting Hate Act.

As communities across the Greater Toronto Area prepare for new municipal government administrations, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and @UJAFederation are calling on elected leaders to make public safety, accountability, and the protection of all residents clear priorities.
With Olivia Chow re-elected as Mayor of Toronto, attention now turns to the commitments made during the campaign and the work still ahead. During the campaign, Mayor Chow outlined plans to build on policing investments, expand security funding for vulnerable institutions, and continue efforts to address antisemitism and hate. These are important responsibilities, and the next term of council presents an opportunity to demonstrate sustained progress through consistent enforcement, stronger accountability, and tangible improvements in community safety.
While Toronto's mayoral race attracted considerable attention, these priorities extend well beyond Toronto City Hall. Across Vaughan, Markham, Mississauga, and municipalities throughout the GTA, elected officials have an important role in ensuring that public spaces are safe, that municipal services are delivered without discrimination, and that residents can participate fully in community life.

A Nazi swastika targeting Jewish students near Western University in London, Ontario, has led to hate-motivated charges, one of several recent cases highlighting how Canada's new Combatting Hate Act (Bill C-9) is being put to use.
Our Jewish community -- across the board -- advocated for this vital legislation that provides authorities with more tools to hold hate offenders accountable and better protect institutions of vulnerable communities from hateful protests and incidents.
Swipe through these cases that demonstrate the importance of giving law enforcement the tools to confront hate directed at our and other communities
But enforcement needs to be consistent across the country. That's why we're calling on Justice Minister @SeanFraserMP to urgently advance the convening of federal, provincial and territorial governments to coordinate enforcement of existing and new hate laws.
“This problem was not created by Jewish Canadians; it does not just affect Jewish Canadians. It affects all Canadians. And we cannot leave it up to our Jewish neighbours to solve.”
In a powerful piece for @TheHubCanada, Andrew Bennett and @BrianDijkema call on Canada's Christian community to stand with Jewish Canadians in the face of rising antisemitism.
We welcome this call for solidarity and the recognition that protecting Jewish Canadians is essential to protecting the freedoms and values we all share.

During the campaign, you committed $1.5M over three years to support security initiatives that keep Jewish day schools, synagogues, and community centres safe. With 93% of community members reporting feeling less secure, we are grateful for this partnership. 2/4

Joint Statement by CIJA and London Jewish Federation:
Targeting the homes of Jewish students outside Western University with a Nazi swastika was not only an act of antisemitism, but also an attack on the inclusive, democratic values that all Canadians share.
We are proud of the students who responded with solidarity and defiance, affirming their Jewish identity and promptly engaging authorities.
We commend London Police for swiftly arresting and charging the perpetrator with a hate-motivated offence under the Combatting Hate Act, important legislation our community helped advance.
But enforcement must be consistent nationwide and extremism must be stopped before it takes root.
We call on Minister @SeanFraserMP to urgently convene provincial and territorial Attorneys General and Public Safety Ministers to coordinate enforcement of existing and new hate laws. And we urge authorities at all levels to confront the radicalization spreading across our campuses and throughout the country, where antisemitic libels and conspiracies about Jews and Israelis fuel hatred, violence and even terrorism.
Our organizations stand with the Jewish students targeted by this act of hate and remain committed to a Canada where everyone can live safely and express their identity without fear.

Canadians are waking up to news of yet another deadly Palestinian terrorist attack against Israelis, leaving several wounded, some critically, and killing two people: Yonatan Roytman and Yuval Shai Svilem.
May their memories be for a blessing.
The Palestinian Authority has a responsibility to uphold security and protect innocent lives. The Canadian government must hold the PA accountable for the deterioration of the security situation and for its continued practice of rewarding terrorism through payments to terrorists and their families.
Without holding the Palestinian Authority accountable, Canada is permitting the PA to violate both their specific commitments to Canada and their international obligations to end terrorism.
We look forward to working with all parliamentarians—from both the majority and the opposition—on our shared priorities.

Nous avons hâte de travailler avec l'ensemble des parlementaires, de la majorité et des oppositions, autour de nos priorités communes.

Canadians and Israelis have a long history of working together to save lives and make the world a better place.
That’s why we’re thrilled to learn that the producer of the Canadian-made series Mayday has reached out to Yaniv Hayun, the Israeli plumber who helped save lives aboard FlyDubai Flight 1073 by drawing on knowledge he gained from the show to help pull the plane out of a nosedive after a terrorist co-pilot took control.
CIJA is proud to share that we are proud to be working to make this connection possible, and we hope to welcome Yaniv to Canada soon!
