IN BAD FAITH is the historical thriller where a subpoena, a newsroom, and a movement collide. Lee Levine tells this story as it unfolded: a Black journalist with rare access; a mostly white press struggling to cover Black communities; and a government—under J. Edgar Hoover and Richard Nixon—running COINTELPRO, a sweeping campaign to infiltrate, discredit, and break the Panthers while pressuring reporters who covered them. #HistoricalThriller #BlackJournalism #BlackPress Learn more here: ow.ly/LiWB5100JEx

THE NECESSARY MAN argues that Petr Chaadaev (1794–1856), a prototype for some of the most famous protagonists of nineteenth-century Russian literature, is less important for his philosophy than for his persona and the emotional resistance to political authority that he introduced into society. #RussianLiterature #Chaadaev #19thCenturyRussia Learn more here: ow.ly/aAXv5100JCO

PROFILES IN COLLABORATION exposes the collaboration of five leading officials in the East German CDU with the Stasi, the secret police of the Communist regime in the GDR. Robert F. Goeckel analyzes this complexity by exploring the cases of five leading CDU officials, four of whom agreed to collaborate with the Stasi and one who did not. #EastGermany #CDUHistory #GDRHistory Learn more here: ow.ly/HS3C50ZZ2l4

HEIDEGGER'S REVOLUTIONARY POLITICS shows how metaphysics, history, and political longing intertwine in Martin Heidegger's work and inspire contemporary anti-Western intellectual and political movements. Alexander S. Duff looks at Iranian revolutionary intellectuals, neo-Eurasianist ideologues in Russia, and other post-liberal movements and their turn to Heidegger's philosophy, which offers a vocabulary for radical civilizational alternatives that reject liberalism and humanism. #Heidegger #Metaphysics #RevolutionaryPolitics #AntiWestern Learn more here: ow.ly/1r3350ZO0TG

New guidelines for editing, reading, and interpreting Scholastic texts of the High Middle Ages This book highlights the interplay between vestigial orality and scribal culture in Scholastic texts of the High Middle Ages. Apart from Thomas Aquinas and a few others who exercised complete control over their texts, the surviving works of most medieval Scholastic masters – copied and recopied many times – retain traces of the oral settings in which they originated. This book presents hundreds of examples from texts spanning the entire High Middle Ages, showing editors and readers of Scholastic texts how to recognize and account for difficulties arising from the vestigial orality embedded in them, and how to recognize and interpret textual anomalies attributable to multi-stage copying following original lectures. NEGOTIATING THE FUTURE focuses on US labor and the just transition. Fossil fuel workers are currently at risk for losing their jobs should the US curtail coal, natural gas and oil use. A just transition would support these workers and avoid imposing disproportionate shares of the costs of decarbonization on the poor, the working class, or people of color. While some unions are debating how a just low-carbon energy transition can be enacted, others are questioning whether a transition needs to take place at all. Diane Sicotte provides a detailed understanding of the role of labor in environmental change, beyond the "jobs vs. environment" framing. Negotiating the Future also contributes to ongoing debates in labor studies: about the best ways for labor unions to address conflicts between their members' long-term interests in environmental stability and their short-term material interests; how far solidarity should go when it means abetting obstacles to lowering carbon emissions, and how to ensure that the developing renewable energy industries enhance labor unions' power resources instead of diminishing them. MASTERING THE BODY offers an innovative exploration of the intimate, bodily routines that shaped—and were shaped by—Roman society. From kitchens to chamber pots, F. Mira Green uncovers how eating, digesting, and excreting were not just biological necessities but deeply embedded social practices that reinforced hierarchies and power structures in Roman households. #AncientRome #RomanHistory #SocialPractices #RomanCulture Learn more here: ow.ly/AuoX50ZO5vm
