A job post full of responsibilities tells you what someone will do. A strong role also makes clear what all that work is supposed to change. Improve retention. Launch a new market. Reduce support volume. Grow a partner channel. Ship a product. Build a function that doesn’t exist yet. Tasks describe the work. Outcomes explain why the role exists.

The first week at a new job is roughly: 20% doing the job 30% finding where everything lives 50% translating internal company language back into English

If you hire someone to “own” something, give them something real to own. A title without decision rights is coordination. A goal without access to the information needed to reach it is guessing. Accountability without the ability to influence the outcome is just pressure. Clear ownership means knowing: - what you can decide - where you need input - who you depend on - what outcome you’re responsible for “Ownership” should describe how the role works, not just how the job description sounds.
