we.trade, Marco Polo, Contour, TradeLens — four bank-backed trade platforms, four shutdowns. They all made the exact same onboarding mistake.
Each one asked every party in the chain — bank, buyer, forwarder, customs broker — to join a consortium membership before anyone could transact. That's 17 to 30 parties who all had to move at once.
Nobody moves a 17-party process for a pilot. That's not a technology problem, it's a sequencing problem.
If you've been asked to onboard a full consortium just to try a platform, how far did you actually get?

SGS bought Applied Technical Services in January 2026. Bureau Veritas bought Lotusworks in April 2026 to build a $325 million platform. Both moves say the same thing: digital verification revenue is the next line, and nobody's cornered it yet.
Your bank doesn't care how fast your blockchain pilot moves. It cares who's legally on the hook if the cargo report is wrong.
Every trade-finance comparison ranks speed and fees. None of them list who actually stands behind the inspection certificate.
SME exporters are already facing tighter credit lines and more compliance scrutiny (Trade Finance Global, 2026). A signature with named liability attached is worth more to a bank than a faster API.
Does your surveyor currently put a name and liability behind their signature, or just a stamp?

A $254 billion industry is quietly shopping for a side business. Almost nobody buying RWA tokens has noticed.
Testing, inspection, and certification: $254.41 billion in 2026, growing to $306.13 billion by 2031. A 3.8% CAGR. The top five firms hold just 11.7% of it.
SGS acquired a company in January 2026. Bureau Veritas acquired Lotusworks in April to build a $325 million platform. Both are buying growth because the market won't hand it to them.
The RWA comparison you read this morning never once used the word 'attestor.'
It covered chain, asset class, APY, lockup. All fair questions. None of them touch who actually checked the real-world claim the token is supposed to represent.
Here's what's missing from that list:
A consortium of major European banks built we.trade. It shut down in 2022. What does that tell you about bank backing as a trust signal?
Marco Polo, another bank-built network, followed in 2023.
Both had real institutions, real capital, real integration budgets. Neither survived, because moving a document onto a ledger never answered who's accountable for what's written on it.
That's the actual test for anything claiming to fix trade finance: not who backed it, but whether a claim can be checked against evidence before anyone relies on it.
