On this week’s De Los podcast, we got to yap with @latimes columnist @GustavoArellano about how Latinos have become the REAL swing voters — namely in California, Texas and my old stomping grounds of South Florida 🐊 youtu.be/AXHcR72W4Yk?is=Srva…

Blue Wave smacked Republicans so hard DeSantis dropped the act and started talking like a guy who went to Yale and got a JD from Harvard again.
Ron DeSantis explains why the GOP "screaming socialism" doesn't work anymore: "Young people have a very positive view of socialism compared to capitalism. The question is, why is that? Some of it is the education in our universities. But I think a big part of that is, what they're comparing is not free enterprise versus socialism. What they're comparing is how government gets involved in business, and you have crony capitalism. The best kind of indirect supporters of socialism are some of these corporatist republicans who propagate these crony policies. The average person is seeing that and saying, 'Wait a minute, you're trying to bend the government to funnel benefits to this corporation or that industry. What about having a competitive market? ... Young people really aren't seeing that. They're seeing just a handful of companies that have an outsized influence on our economy and on our society"

Giving someone you only kind of know a hand decorated and assembled CD of songs that remind you of them. The level of effort and implied intimacy there seems like it would be incredibly forward by people's standards today.
Millennials, what was considered completely NORMAL in 2005 that would be absolutely unhinged today?

Pete needs to talk about Gramsci more
I’ve never seen this happen in a Buttigieg interview before. Patrick Bet David brings up Pete’s late father’s work translating Antonio Gramsci. Pete turns it around onto the American political right.

You just gotta chalk it up to them being uninterested in you and quickly move on
Are men taught at a young age to not ask reciprocating questions? Idk why I keep running into men that don’t ask questions lol in my head when someone asks me a question for example like “oh how was work” I automatically think to say “what about you” after responding

"they noticed you're scaring the hoes" is perhaps the best 2026 midterms take yet
Young men don’t want your Nazi bullshit because they have gay and trans friends, their favorite coworker is a 50 year old Mexican guy, and they noticed that you’re scaring the hoes

Is Spotify the devil incarnate? This could be the biggest disaster for artists the music business has ever seen. A move that puts more money in Spotify’s own pocket under the guise that it could help artists. Imagine a song going viral from an AI remix you didn’t approve? This steps all over Intellectual property law. 🤯
Spotify just announced a feature that could either save the music industry or destroy it. Starting as early as Q1 2027, Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to use AI to transform any participating artist’s song into a completely different version. Turn a folk ballad into a dance track. Make a hip-hop song sound acoustic. Generate a cover where one artist’s voice performs another artist’s song. Remix a pop hit into lo-fi study music. Create the version of your favorite song that only existed in your head until now. The remixes will be uploaded directly to Spotify. They’ll appear in playlists. They’ll count toward the original song’s chart position. And most importantly the original artist will earn royalties every time someone listens to a fan-created remix of their work. Spotify has already signed a landmark licensing deal with Universal Music Group the world’s largest record label. Negotiations with Sony Music and Warner Music are ongoing. The feature will cost an additional $4–$5/month on top of Spotify Premium. And analysts project 7–8% of American subscribers will adopt it by 2028. This is not Suno or Udio generating music from text prompts. This is fans remixing real songs by real artists with the artists’ permission, on the world’s largest streaming platform, with royalties flowing back to the creators. A music industry analyst who’s covered streaming economics for 15 years told her team something after reading the licensing agreement that reframed how she understood the future of recorded music. “Spotify just turned 640 million listeners into 640 million potential remixers. The question isn’t whether people will use it they will. The question is whether paying artists for fan remixes solves the economics of streaming or creates a world where the original recording is worth less than the infinite remixes generated from it.” Here’s what Spotify’s AI remix feature actually is, who wins, who loses, and why this might be the most consequential decision in the music industry since the launch of streaming itself 🧵

"Access to sex" like we are toilets
Men who have regular sex and are married (aged 20-55) are almost four times more likely to be “very happy” than their peers who are unmarried with little or no access to sex, according to data from the General Social Survey.

millennial cringe is back on the menu boys!
I love to see millennial politicians lean into their cringe. I like that Mamdani didn’t try to bury his rapper phase. AOC dancing to Lisztomania? Iconic. Talarico watching Drag Race? Fun! They can connect to culture (and constituents) on a human level; hard to govern without it

Occupy Forever ❤️
For all its flaws and incoherence, I do think Occupy Wall Street deserves credit for popularizing the 99% versus the 1% messaging, as well as for helping normalize the use of capitalism as an object of explicit political criticism.

I haven’t been an organizer in many years, but the Occupy experiment taught me so much about turning critique of power into actionable people power. I will always be grateful for that education.

Dating apps are gaming apps. That’s why people who are serious about partnership can’t stand them. The last time I used one, I gave myself a limit of seven days, only 30 minutes a day to chat and meet up with people. See how it plays out and try again… if you REALLY have to.

A recurring experience I had on Raya was some beautiful misguided man asking me to listen to his music to review it in Rolling Stone
my review of raya as a dating app (since so many of my friends have asked for referrals lately): pros: - generally a more attractive dating pool - higher caliber of users in terms of careers and professional success - access to people outside your city, expanding your dating pool - a great billboard to let people in your extended network know you’re single - the price and application process create some barrier to entry cons: - access to people outside your city, meaning half your matches live nowhere near you -lots of matches, very few meaningful conversations - most interactions fall completely flat - seems like a lot of people are looking for something casual rather than genuinely pursuing a relationship - a fair amount of clout chasing and superficiality - i’ve only gone on a couple of dates from the app and both ended up ghosting me - expensive for an app that doesn’t seem to produce many actual dates overall verdict: great for window shopping, networking, and reminding the world you’re single. very questionable for actually finding a relationship. my advice will always be the same and that is to put yourself out there, meet people in person, and don’t rely on an app to find your person.
