Outside of the ones here on X, artists are some of the most insufferable, unstable, angry people you'll ever meet. I've known this forever but holy shit, the way artists are crashing out over AI is a whole new level of antisocial rage for them. Of course, this will only alienate them even more from normal people/business, which will make them even more angry and unstable... hard to see a way that this ends well for them.

Having “fuck you money” is great but having “no thank you” money is also pretty great. Meaning, if someone asks you or something that you don’t really want to do, you can just say “no thank you” and they can’t do much about it. And that amount of money is a lot more attainable than many people realize. All you need is to weasel your way into some kind of high paying situation for a couple years, throw it all into the S&P, then sit on it until it becomes enough money that you realize you can politely decline anything you don’t feel like doing.

Imagine a guy in a fedora and transition lenses, who’s also part of a “vegan rationalist polycule” in SF, starts breathlessly ranting to you about how AI is going to destroy humanity. That’s literally what’s happening… act accordingly.
