Thank you to the @IWLA_org Rockville Chapter for inviting Katie Foreman, Water Resources Protection Division Manager to speak at last night’s general membership meeting.
Katie shared information about Secure the Source, a regional effort to identify a secondary water supply for the Potomac River.
💧DYK? More than five million people across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., rely on the Potomac River for their drinking water. 👀 Watch our latest video to learn why securing a backup supply is so important.

After a major snow and ice storm, we closed out Winter Salt Week at the Izaak Walton League Salt Watch event in Gaithersburg.
Our Dir. of Operational Reliability and Resilience, Priscilla To, highlighted how salt affects our drinking water and infrastructure.
Remember: Shovel first. Salt only if needed. Sweep the rest. #Saltwise

Gaithersburg, MD. On Saturday, I was honored to be one of speakers at the Winter Salt Week Open House at the headquarters of the Izaak Walton League of America here. We all need to use salt wisely: shovel the snow, sprinkle the salt, and sweep it up! @PotomacCommis @IWLA_org

Winter weather is already here, and so is road salt. Excess road salt washes into our storm drains, streams, and drinking water sources, and unlike other contaminants, salt is not filtered out of our drinking water. #sponsored
Go to saltwatch.org to request a free test kit to monitor your water for road salt pollution! Plus, learn how you can protect the environment and your health this winter while staying safe in the snow and ice.

“For many people in Pennsylvania — whether it is hunting or farming or whatever your pastime is — traditions are often more defining as to who you are than whatever is happening in American politics. And a lot of times, we don’t realize that our traditions, like the bonds that are formed here, shape us more than what is consuming the rest of the world in politics. I think that’s why a lot of people don’t understand Pennsylvanians.” washingtonpost.com/opinions/…

The Izaak Walton League opposes EPA's proposed rule for Waters of the USA that willfully strips away essential Clean Water Act safeguards for our nation’s wetlands and tributary streams. The rule defies science as well as the law.
