It's Labour Day and my labour is writing and publishing books. Here's our latest, a work of fiction about a dystopian island of free-for-all occultists. It's getting rave reviews!
And our first book available in hardcover! Link below.
A very special happy birthday for the most kind, caring, compassionate and hard working person I've ever known. How such a tiny human being could hold such depths, and contribute so much to the world is astounding. I am beyond lucky to be her partner.
If I could go back in time to live part of my life over again, screw all that stuff about investing in stocks. (Had no money to invest anyhow!) I'd go back to meet @jmkeep earlier, so I'd have more time with her.
Wild what creatives can accomplish when actually supported, and not bled dry and rotated out regularly as if interchangeable cogs.

Interesting. But I think the reality is, as one trauma therapist put it to me: only ~5% of our life is really under our control. But that doesn't make it hopeless or pointless to exercise control, we should really take care with that 5% that's ours.

ALT His true hope, he says, is to increase compassion. Maybe if people understand how thoroughly an early history of trauma can rewire a brain, theyβll stop lusting for harsh punishments. Maybe if someone realizes they have a brain condition like depression or ADHD, theyβll stop hating themselves for struggling with tasks that seem easier for others. Just as previous generations thought seizures were brought on by witchcraft, some of our current beliefs about personal responsibility may eventually be undone by scientific discovery.
Me, a commercial smut peddler of erotica, has infinitely more artistic integrity than some "AI" loser. I would never sink so low as to not only use some plagiarism machine, but call the results my own.
You stand before the tribunal.
Me, singing to @jmkeep: "You're soooo good! You're the best there is!"
Her, singing along with me, but to Laszlo.
Laszlo, staring at me, waiting for a treat.

This. It was a Soviet-legacy hotbed of nationalists and communists, but when Yeltsin forcibly closed it down, he broke the constitution, and the West cheered him. We ignored the fundamental truth: if you want democracy you have to accept that sometimes the guys you don't like win
Reminder that just about every Holocaust/Jewish organization regards equating the USSR and Nazi Germany, as a form of Holocaust denial espoused by neo Nazis. The goal of equating them is to normalize Nazism and diminish the horrors of the Holocaust in the public consciousness.
Never going to forget that every single member of parliament stood up and applauded a member of the SS, the most vile group in history, out of an astonishing amount of ignorance. Or a shameless desire to just go along. Not a single one above the level of an insufferable twitterer
Every western politician is coming out of the woodworks with their own deranged misinterpretations or outright lies about history these days. It's unreal.
Eighty-two years ago, Nazis murdered 34,000 Jews at Babyn Yar. Soviets buried this history, which today Putin's government manipulates to provide cover for Russia's abuses in Ukraine. The U.S. is committed to justice for Holocaust survivors and accountability for atrocities.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Soviet prisoners of war (POWs) were among the people who were massacred at Babyn Yar. The Soviets liberated Babyn Yar and Kiev in 1943. The Soviets held a trial in 1946 in Kiev for 15 German policemen involved in the Babyn Yar massacres.

So sad I missed out on the twitter debate about a member of the SS being invited to parliament. I'm sure it was full of nuanced debate around people's contextless skimming of a portion of a wiki page.
It's bullshit that the university of Alberta is returning the Nazis money though. They should just send it to some Jewish organizations, and let the fuckers sue and expose themselves if they have a problem with that.
Great, you got rid of the Nazis dirty money by... what? Giving it BACK to the Nazis?! Great I guess they can forward it to the proud boys or stormfront or whatever now. Well done I guess
It is September of 2023, and @jmkeep excitedly told me about how she's working on new spreadsheets for 2024s taxes.
At this point I don't even think that access to mental healthcare is a big deal. Access to a stripped down service, that defies the research in the field, isn't that valuable. A lot of what they're doing now is down right harmful.
Political messaging has to be simple and to the point. And all politicians apparently took from a focus on access, is that the quality of care (or if it's even care in any meaningful sense at all) is meaningless.
