How I went from a kiddie pool attendant to having a company that did $5B in sales in 7 years….
And it was because of this one principle:
When my partner and I started Marquis Jet, we didn't have access to a single jet.
Nobody was going to hand two twenty-somethings a fleet of planes.
So we got a meeting with NetJets and brought our own customers to make the case for us.
I started as a kiddie pool attendant.
I sold carrot and celery sticks door to door. Failed.
T-shirt company. Failed.
Marketing company. Failed.
Record label. Went out of business.
Then at 28, I got invited onto a private jet.
People think having no experience was the obstacle.
For me it was the gift.
No one ever taught me about business. My dad owned a plumbing supply house. So everything I did looked different from my competition.
I've found worrying about the HOW I'm going to do something in the beginning can be overwhelming.
I prefer to focus on my excitement and enthusiasm around a goal or idea and start from there.
When you break things into digestible bites and focus on the immediate task ahead it breaks big endeavors down to be manageable.
